  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

    How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

You can add a Title (your user name, model year, etc.), Brief Description (color name, model year, model) and a "Tell Us More About Your Scout:" where you can enter in your backstory, details about your Scout, modifications, restoration history, fun ownership stories and photos of your vehicle. 1963 Scout 80. All stock, self restored, many lessons learned.

Tell us about your Scout:

This is a 1963 Scout 80, and originally came with a half cab which I still have. It has the stock 152 engine but I have upgraded to a Weber carburetor, disc brakes and a dual master cylinder. All work was done by me except for the upholstery. It is a fun weekend cruiser. I found this in Arizona when I was going to college in 1985 I bought it in 2013.

Curious about your disc brake upgrade - did you use a kit or build your own? I need to do that on my #tuff66 this summer.

Yes, i met you there. This the one that scout motors put next to the Terra. There were certainly legacy scouts restored nicer than mine but mine being 100 percent stock must have been the look they wanted.

The master cylinder is a dual, I bought it off of Amazon it is a doorman M39502 , I think that's for a 76 CJ5, I did not do power brakes. The disc brakes were a kit, they came off of another Scout build, I bought the axles from another 64 Scout 80. There are lots of opinions and ideas on what to do on binder planet, Gary Billings has some good articles on this conversion on what to do yourself. I have another one to do on my 65 and due to the cost of shipping of heavy parts I think I may just buy the brackets from eBay for the lilies disc brake conversion they're about 175 bucks and piece together the rest from my local auto parts store so I don't have to pay shipping. Or go through Amazon, the brackets use standard Chevrolet disc brake pads, I think my rotors are from a CJ5. Go out and read the forums if you have more money than time buy the kit you'll be happy. People that are building wheelers are not going to put 700 bucks into a Dana 27 or a Dana 30, they're going to look for a Dana 44 with disc brakes on them already, the serious wheelers are not using Dana 44s anymore so there's deals out there
