A less screen, focused layout

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I think a less screen focused layout would be really cool. You could add it as an option and also an option to add a CD and DVD player as I believe physical media to be very important and it would be a great option to have something like the C6 Corvette a small touchscreen tons of buttons especially for the drivetrain like the all EV mode and the hybrid that uses the EREV and towing etc buttons for these especially and a CD and DVD player basically the same interior they have now but with a 10 inch screen and a CD and DVD player with towing and drivetrain button controls and if you think this is a good idea upvote so more people can see

There could be some interest - but honestly I like the screen for navigation and it is almost necessary by law now to use any common automotive phone feature. But sure - if they would want a very stripped version (no power windows, locks, no radio, etc..., might as well remove it too. But I don't think a super stripped version will be made anywhere near launch (but if it had removable doors and roof - and a discounted price, it would sell).

I’m not saying have no screen I’m just saying have a smaller one with more physical controls and a cd and dvd player

Welcome to the forum. Personally I’ve seen it in person and think the size is perfect for the screen. We just had a discussion the other day about possible CD player too

Majority of buyers will want a screen this day and age. Needs to be a balance. Look at Porsches. I think they have way too many buttons to the point you have to take eyes off the road to find what you need

What that’s a first I usually hear how people love the Porsche speedometer how it has like two screens and the physical needles. I think Porsche has a really good balance and think of it this way let’s say your screen is cracked or broken. You can always go back to using your buttons and plus they’re so much fun to click. I know this might sound weird, but I feel like the more buttons a car has the more luxurious to feel.

Scouts already have quite a few buttons in a few different locations in the vehicle. Here’s some pictures my husband took in Chicago of the buttons in the Traveler. The current button setup covers quite a few functions plus has aux buttons for accessories. If, for some reason, the screen was not available I feel like you could accomplish quite a few tasks already. What do you feel is missing?

That really cool you guys got to see it in person I just think it was be nice to have more buttons besides the regular HVAC plus mode buttons for the erev Harvester and things like that the different modes like all eV and the hybrid modes towing etc and just a smaller screen you already have a screen for the speedometer. I feel like a 20 inch flatscreen TV they have for the center console is a bit cumbersome. I think much smaller screen like 10 inches would be more than sufficient. And just keep the driver more focused and in touch with the car and road and not saying that it’s the car company’s fault if people get distracted, but it would be an added benefit if the screen was smaller it probably be harder to get distracted by it

I personally like it. I think it’s proportional to the vehicle, but this is why they have this forum. So we can all express our ideas.

Yes, I got to see the Traveler and Terra at International Harvester Scout Nationals in Ohio last June and then the Traveler in Chicago in December. I’m very lucky that my husband loves photography. He came with me both times and took about 1100 pictures. They are amazing and when they come within traveling distance to you I highly recommend making the trip.

I’m posting links to the two threads with all the pictures. I took measurements with my phone and stood next to them for a size reference.

I’ll say again I think Scout has actually found the perfect combination of buttons and currently having a roughly 10” screen in my Accord and having seen the screens in the traveler it’s perfect. And keep in mind the screen serves the front seat copilot equally well. I think this is a discussion I’ll agree to disagree on

Sorry - but I don't see any OEM putting clunky & obsolete HW into a modern EV truck when it is unnecessary - particularly with streaming

Well, giving the way they’re advertising this I’m assuming that the people who are going to buy are farmers campers and overall outdoor people who don’t want to pay $15 a month for Apple Music or Spotify and have 10 different streaming services. They might just have a collection of DVDs and CDs and when they go for road trips or just out and about, will put a couple dozen in the glove box and will be happy it’s there

I'm a camper and an outdoorsy person - hell I even do a little farming on my own property. I pay $150 / YEAR for streaming, WiFi and numerous other features. Sure, I elect to subscribe to some other services too, but that is my choice, and certainly doesn't make me any less "outdoorsy". LOL

Good news for people that want additional HW with the Scout... You can B.Y.O.D. Just plug your player into any outlet and go nuts while your farming, camping or being outdoorsy. Problem solved, and one less thing for Scout to worry about too! Win / Win. (y)

This thread makes me feel young. :ROFLMAO:

At most, I'd be okay with an A/V input for plugging in a device to use the main screen. Beyond that, I don't see the expense of the hardware to be worth it for the 2% of people that'd be using it, but an input allows you to plug in a player, hard drive, video game console, laptop, etc without much cost.

Very simple compromise and simple solution. Now where to mount a CD player, would actually prefer audio DVD because I have Eagles greatest hits and Metallica both on audio FVD and back in the day with my Scura surround sound it was the best listening experience. Was like being in a comfy chair in the middle of the stage while they played Hotel California. Never heard music that good since, at least not in a car

I'll have mud tires, not my concern... :ROFLMAO:

I've transferred most all of our DVD/Blu-ray to digital now and all of our audio CDs are digitized, so I'd be happy being able to play those through the main screen. Rivian didn't allow videos on-screen, but if you stored your movies where the security videos were stored, you could watch them that way. At this point, I don't see why videos aren't allowed on the main screen. They're less distracting than 90% of the other crap that's on the screens.

Not to be mean but cds players were found in most cars in 2014 a little over 10 years ago and maybe the reason why people don’t use their CDs and DVDs anymore. It’s because they have no place to put them. I bet if more cars had CD players a lot more people use them and talk about it plus I’m 18 years old and the CD and DVD is not some super old fantasy tech that only geriatric people use they were standard like 10 years ago

The quality on some CDs is better than streaming, as it is true lossless audio uncompressed for some CDs
