WiFi and Bluetooth disconnect (airplane mode)

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I’m so excited for this vehicle and I am really hoping this vehicle stays simple like the old days of scout. I understand in this day and age that WiFi/Bluetooth will be integrated, but may we have an option to disable them like we can on a phone with airplane mode? I wanted a Rivian but I passed due to it having an always on Bluetooth signal with no option to disable. I would love Scout to have an option to have a physical key. I don’t want to use my phone as a key cause I don’t use a phone.

I have an RF sensitivity. I believed it developed after 8 years of cancer. For three years after I was in pain and could not sleep. The doctors and my wife tried everything. It wasn’t until I read of someone with similar symptoms caused by RF that I decided to add it to my long list of things to try. I was 99% sure it would not help like everything else we tried. Once we got around to disabling all RF signals in the house I was shocked the next day that the pain was gone and I slept like a baby. I have since discovered a lot more people like me.

Even though these aren’t very powerful signals the proximity of WiFi/bluetooth antennas in a vehicle is often too close to the driver so an option to disable would be amazing. Thank you for considering and I am happy to give more details of my condition if you would like.

Edit: Also, please no tracking services like OnStar, or Toyota Care. These also have constant signals that are impossible to stop without removing hardware or fuses.

Welcome to the community. I know there is a detox mode that turns off the info on the screens to only what’s absolutely necessary. They did a demonstration in some of the CES videos and you can find them on YouTube. But as far Bluetooth the haven’t said anything about that.

I’m really curious about this RF thing you are talking about. Do you have links to any peer reviewed studies?

Welcome and sorry to hear that. I would hope if nothing else Scout could have a technical staff member turn yours off to accommodate. But most of these items are essential but something like a forescan run to turn those off in yours would be great if you do factory delivery maybe they will handle that for you. As for online service like an on star I think most would want this as the added safety of call alerts, etc. would be valuable to many drivers. Hope SM can accommodate your needs on your vehicle. Thanks for joining the forum

I an not familiar with RF sensitivity. Glad you figured it out.

This is an excellent suggestion. You have a (y) from me.

A lot of people here have requested the ability to turn off certain features that they don't want. Scout is asking for our suggestions, and this is a perfect example of "I would not have thought of that". It never would have occurred to me that we should be able to turn off the WIFI and/or Bluetooth in the vehicle. But now that you mention it, I can think of a couple of reasons to turn it off (in addition to your sensitivity).

Hi there. I am truly sorry to hear that you are a fellow cancer traveler. I am also a two-time cancer survivor myself, and I’m very much hoping to never have a cancer hat trick.

So… I am not an electrical engineer myself, but I did work in very close proximity to them for 20 years as a communications professional. I worked with people who did things like set the standards for next-gen video CODECs and worked in Faraday cages and became the CEO of AMD and created their own microchips and whatnot. This is to say that these were all people who were fairly credible in their field and the people you’d pick up a few things from here and there.

My understanding is that a car is a kind of (imperfect) Faraday cage. Please understand that I am not trying to gaslight you here, but I’m kind of incredulous that the kind of low-frequency signals put out by electronic devices are causing you pain. Those frequencies are not high or strong enough. You know how people say quartz crystals put out vibes? Yeah, they’re naturally piezoelectric, but the vibe they put out is so tiny that you can’t feel that with the human body. You need a multimeter to check that vibe.

Neuropathy is real and the pain coming and going is also real and valid. Extremely valid. Please understand the skepticism. If turningoff the electronics in your house is what works for you, then that’s what works for you. I’m just curious to know more about the math, so to speak.

I wish you the best. 🫡✌️

Like after the heat gets put on @Scoutsie and me for our club activity and we have to lay low for a week or two. “Dead men tell no tales” (say it in your ghostly pirate voice)

I don’t know how essential they really are I can take an electric motor and make it variable and electric vehicles existed long before RF tech and WiFi.
Plus our phones can be set for accident alerts. I agree on being able to turn it all off. I turn off my phone sometimes on long drives to think and enjoy the drive without all the daily distractions.

I understand your skepticism. I would not have believed it if it did not happen to me. I have tested it throughly myself and can tell the proximity of sources. My family even tested me multiple times. Lower RF signals in the MHz are undetectable by me and do not appear to cause me pain. 2.4 GHz signals are like a frog in a slowly boiling pot for me. By the time I feel it, it’s too late. I can be about 15 ft from a 2.4 GHz for an hour before I notice it, so I attempt to find router locations before I sit down. Closer proximity like in a car, where the signal is usually in the dash hits within minutes. 5 GHz and higher hits me super fast and I notice almost immediately. I can usually pinpoint sources quickly. I’m kind of like a 5 - 30 GHz RF meter 😂 The new 5th gen cell signals are the worst. I have found I live the best with readings under 1 uW/m2. My Son has also tested me in his car. When picking me up he would turn off his WiFi in the car for my sake. Several times he tried to trick me over a period of months since his car did not show on the main screen if signals were on. I told him within 1 minute that his WiFi was still on when he tried to trick me. He is now convinced since I was never wrong.

In terms of studies, I have amassed dozens of studies. They are on my old PC. I’m happy to hook it back up and forward them to you. I remember one study that attempted to link the skyrocketing cases of type 2 diabetes to RF. I did not thoroughly read that one, but I remember that being one of my theories since I was boarder-line diabetic while I was in pain. I ate one of the healthiest diets too. I also avoided all surgery drinks and snacks, and drank lots of water. After turning off all the RF signals in my house, my blood sugar levels went back to normal very quickly. Another curious thing was that my spleen was always in great pain. The doctors didn’t understand it. That pain stopped almost immediately after turning off all the RF. There was a study that showed blood going rouleaux (blood reversing polarity) in certain subjects. Which could explain why my spleen was in pain. It was probably overworked and extremely swollen. Other symptoms were massive migraine headaches, needing constant chiropractic adjustments, and pain in my arms and legs. All of which went away from removing RF signals from my home.
