We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

Not interested in a self driving car and don't really want to have an incident with one either.
Also, it’s kinda funny that they compare it to China, as China seems to have stricter rules about self driving, cf recent prohibition on Tesla using term “full self driving”. I don’t think it’s about encouraging innovation, it’s about sweeping away safety rules that Tesla doesn’t like, and it could end up getting more people killed.

Not a serious 'truck'

Again, I see this as a first car for the young set they can customise, and a fleet vehicle.
My second car while in college was a Toyota Hilux with the turn signals mounted on the hood. Perfect for what I needed and had friends borrowing it quite often, especially on dorm move-out day.

Let's face it. How many people need or actually use a "serious" truck? Sure, there are many examples of those who do, but most light trucks are lifestyle or image vehicles. Most trucks these days rarely haul anything in the bed. They are commuter vehicles. Sadly, those owners are also known as "super users"* of gasoline and diesel. For many trucks, the most actual use they will ever see is carrying a few boxes, furniture, bikes, Home Depot runs, etc. In my opinion, this Slate truck is not a panacea, but may be part of the solution. If you want a truck because you like it or it strokes your ego, or whatever go for it. Full disclosure, I do not hate trucks. My company owns and uses trucks for truck stuff. I also own a Jeep Comanche.

  • Have similar income and educational levels as the general population
  • Have lower average income levels than current EV drivers
  • Spend on average 8% of their income on gasoline — more than twice that of average drivers.
  • Superusers collectively use 35% of all gasoline used in private light-duty vehicles (LDVs) – more than the bottom 72% of drivers combined.
  • The 21 million US Gasoline Superusers make up just 0.24% of the world's population, but they use 10.4% of the world's gasoline – nearly as much as all of China.
 
The 90mph is definitely an issue, what happens if I want to Baja it at 100+ mph? I hope Scout’s don’t cap out at a stupid low number.

I also saw a good comment on YouTube, that Slate we’ll be another Fisker. If they can’t deliver on the price point.

That’s something that RJ from Rivian needs to understand about flooding the EV market with more and more companies, yes is it good for competition, but as each company fails it hurts the economy and market.
Tesla model 3 performance tops out at 168 😆

I wouldn’t mind a 160 top. That’s pretty much what every car max's out at on the Speedo. Tire are what are the issue.
Right same for sure, also way different in a small agile vehicle vs a giant off road suv. No intention of ever going near limits unless maybe the salt flats in UTAH or a race track but the instant acceleration from an EV is incredible for merging and entering the highway at speed

Reminds me of seeing something similar to this and how trucks have evolved over the years. We have traded longer beds in exchange of larger cabs.

Turns out the Slate is moot for me since they won't sell to Canada for some reason.

Oh well. Maybe our new government next week will remove the tariffs on Chinese EVs since the US has decided to ignore our long-standing free trade agreement.

Might be a good time to make new more reliable allies and trade with them to get access to a whole bunch of cheaper vehicles instead of the US.
