We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

Love to see Scout offer a Mobility program like Toyota and others. Of course a discount would be nice but simply reaching out to Braun and or other adaptive equipment manufacturers to get the Terra and Traveler approved to handel aftermarket equipment. We have a Braun Turney swivel drop seat in or Sienna that really helps with our daughter

How is the vertical movement on this system? Knowing the Scout has 12” clearance does that extra few inches affect the systems movement? Would be smart on SM and Braun to start working on both ends as I think the vertical movement will need to be addressed on both sides.
I deal with accessibility a lot with design and construction and know how much a little height change can impact everything.

Great question and thanks. Not really sure but our Sienna has a 3" lift kit and taller tires. I know this equipment is approved on a lot of suv's and pickups so it may already have enough throw to get close enough to the ground. Just remember one still has to make the transfer from seat to wheel chair so in our case we lift Abi out and the height does not have to go to low. For someone who is operating the vehicle by themselves and has to make the transfer into thier own wheel chair the height may need to be lower.
 
I wonder if roof rack is sturdy enough to add a swing arm and motor on roof with a lift sling? Transfer may or may not be easier but would pretty cool to have a functional need device mounted on rack with swing out arm. Could be an opportunity on both sides. I’ve installed tracks and slings in a remodel once and they certainly simplify some aspects of daily mobility and would save your back if it was more of a transfer rather than lift and transfer

Something like a wheelchair lift? But made for the real seat. And not the wheel chair.

I have friends that have used these guys to do some incredible custom work on SUV's and full-size pickups!


No financial interest, but I've seen them do things that belonged in a Transformers movie.
 
One great solution for Scout to use to address the height issue is to follow Rivian’s lead and go to airbag suspension so the height of the vehicle is adjustable. Or offer such a package, anyway, for those who want it.
@R1TVT correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t Rivian plagued with alignment issue due to the air suspension?

That’s why I’m hoping Scout stays true to the customization and being able to put normal suspension on any package, and full customization with little to none of those force options that add 10 things for one thing. Because I would rather my Scout not spend a quarter of its life getting alignments all because I want to lower or raise my suspension.

Also, that’s what I was trying to explain but had no idea someone was already doing that type of customization. Also the ATC mobility would be so sick on a Scout, see one giant butterfly wing door open.

As a person with MS who is probably going to eventually be in a wheelchair, I like this a lot! I get that Scout can’t be everything to everyone, but who wouldn’t want a cool option for an accessible vehicle?
The trick is that Scout needs only do a little bit to collaborate with the experts. It's not about doing all the upfitting themselves. The things Scout would "have" to do to make their vehicle accessible-ready are minimal and really are just best-practices in universal design. And they would open up their vehicles to all kinds of other upfitters as well. It's win-win-win all around, with almost no additional cost other than a few design meetings, some design reviews, and the result is lots of goodwill.

No. Never had an alignment in 45K Miles. You're likely conflating potential tire wear with possible camber issues with "alignment". A lowered suspension will create a situation where the tires have some degree of negative camber, and conversely riding around in a high setting will result positive camber. I don't drive around in these settings on pavement and use ride heights very sparingly. The truck also drives best in its standard height setting with the tires flat on the surface. I also found that lowering the suspension for better aerodynamics on the HWY really doesn't create much more efficiency, so I don't generally fiddle with the height. Short people can use kneel mode, which lowers the truck for easy access and egress.

If you drive around all the time on pavement in high or low, you will start to see additional tire wear eventually, esp in a heavy truck.

Oooh, I learned new terms today! My dad would point this out to me (what I now know is negative camber) on trucks and said that was how I’d know when my wheels were out of alignment. I didn’t know the term camber (or caster). Neat! Thanks for this lesson. I’m gonna guess there’s more than this to the mechanisms/physics/everything, but this is helpful. Basically like the Y- axis and the Z-axis?
