Scout Packages sold as after-purchase upgrades...

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Wouldn't it be cool if the different packages that Scout offered could be purchased separately *after* ones initial purchase?

I have saved most of the money I need for my intended Scout and I'm hopeful that I can sell my Expedition to cover the delta between the base model and the launch edition. But what if I can't? or what if they offer a package I *really* want but just can't afford it at purchase?

If I could get my Scout when available but continue to save, maybe I could afford that package a year or two down the road. Man would it be cool if I could purchase it directly from Scout, they shipped it to me, and with their instructions I could perform the upgrade myself.

Or, I could take another trip to the factory (by appointment of course) and have them install the package for an additional fee...

    Thoughts?

I would hope we can get addons after. Thats how they should make them. We should be able to add on to our scouts after. With after market and factory supply kits.

But who knows because from what it seems like Scout it gonna be another greedy Auto Company. @Jamie@ScoutMotors @Scott@ScoutMotors
    I’m not sure what’s going on today - you’re normally very pro-Scout…

I don’t see any indication that Scout Motors is acting with greed or similar intentions.

As TBL says - we need to have faith and patience!

I think many of the “appearance” packages could easily be after-purchase add-ons. But if you want, say the air suspension rather than “normal” suspension (assuming for the moment that those are options), you’re going to want that installed at the factory—aftermarket installers *and calibrations* for critical packages on a brand new vehicle are going to be both rare and inexperienced.

    You are absolutely correct…

Not your self lately? Why the sudden turn, worried about something or learned BMW is becoming greedy again?

Love the concept but wondering which features you have in mind? I think some would be very adaptable for this and other aspects much more challenging but would be great. I also suspect aftermarket companies will come out with all kinds of aftermarket goodies to make them flexible as well. Only the future will tell for sure.

My initial thought was things like the tire carrier (assuming the holes were already there and tapped, just covered) and maybe special grills, bumpers, winches (front & rear?), on-board compressor... Stuff that I would only want to be OEM (unless the aftermarket options were somehow superior).

Me I'm worried Scout isn't fighting for what we thought they were.

Whats next stealerships and no right to repair?

Seems we need reps to stop answer questions because they seem to always start this type of stuff.

Im pro scout but we need clarification and reps at events to go back to how they were with giving blunt no information at all answers. Because every time they talk to forum members stuff like this happens.

But what i read yesterday seems that Scout is following the path of it's investors companies configurators expensive options and greedy for money.

OK - I just didn't see it that way... Maybe I didn't see all the posts yet.
Not trying to start any issues - glad that you're still pro-Scout!

We have reasonable expectation that Scout’s term, “expected to start under $60k” is for the base model, at least for launch. Perhaps sometime a year or three after deliveries start Scout will release another, lower-priced trim.

What nobody, probably not even most of the people at Scout Motors, knows at this time is what “base model” means.

People outside of a small group of inner Scout employees claiming any knowledge of what options will be on a base model Scout are lying. I mean, unless they claim, “I know the base model Scout will have wheels and tires...”

People speculating about what will be on a base model Scout are totally within reason to do that. But it should be fully acknowledged as speculation.

Maybe i took it wrong but to me it read like the reps were going around saying that 60k is purely base model.

No manufacturer offers their base MSRP vehicle as a high-line trim. I think our base model will be well equipped compared to competitors on the market. But I wouldn't expect it to come standard with off-road packages, for example.

What i meant was it should be bare bones can't compete with to a 50-60k bronco or jeep.

    Thanks for the clarification Jamie.

I am sorry to burst your bubble but an EV will always* be more expensive than a comparable ICE model. Batteries are still expensive as they require a lot of expensive minerals that have to be mined and refined, then the batteries produced and assembled into packs. Now over time an EV will save you money due to lower operating costs but there is definitely an upfront cost.

*Battery manufacturing continues to get more efficient so we should see this gap continue to narrow. For example, in 2010 when I bought my Tesla Roadster, it cost $125,000. A Lotus Elise at the time (on which the Roadster is based) cost $56,000. So it was more than double for the "EV Version." Today, using the Hyundai Tucson/Ioniq 5 as comparable ICE model vs EV model, base price for a Tucson is $29,700 and Ioniq 5 is $35,000, so an 18% premium (vs 123% in 2010).
