Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I just read over the last dozen or so posts. 🙄 Stereotyping and gross generalizations on fire!🔥 Sure, the stereotype gets the attention, but they are just that, stereotypes. I am now in a white collar position, but I certainly wasn’t always. I call and treat my employees as co-workers and colleagues. I do not treat them as “blue collar” to my “white collar”. I certainly know how to do things, build things and generally figure stuff out. That seems to be a dying art across the entire socioeconomic spectrum. I say form your opinions carefully and always leave them open to change based on learning new things.

Don’t know if anyone posted this but these gents are electrifying a Scout 80 using a Nissan Leaf Donor
That’s basically the reason I found out about Scout being revived. I was searching “EV Scout swaps“. Pretty cool. More Scouts on the road EV or ICE is good by me!

So just watched the video…FF’d through a bit. But, I’m so glad this is not the only way to get an EV Scout! Thanks Scout Motors!

I agree 25% of your statement. Learning 3% from this.

Thats my new way of responding from today on. No more insight on mechanics or anything.

Its all gonna be percentages.

I'm 95% certain this will hold true.

:D

(In my mountain biking forum there was a huuuuuuge thread that started out with someone asserting that "95% of people are riding around overbiked" (meaning, too much suspension travel/weight for their needs), and it exploded into a years long off topic thread, and "95%" being used to describe everything, so it was on the brain).

I wish you luck in your percentage based contributions.

I just don’t want to make my passengers car sick, that’s why I think I would want my car to creep. Never having driving an EV for extended period of time how long does it take you to get used to driving one pedal without creep on.

I'm not sure how accurate the article is for all the other EVs, but with our Fords, creep doesn't really happen how they say it does. I'm trying to recall a time when I experienced creep at all in either of the Fords. Ford does have an option to toggle a feature called "Auto Hold," which I suppose is an anti-creep feature. It's not dependant on 1PD, though. Auto Hold applies the brakes to hold the vehicle after you stop it and release the brake pedal.

But to your question: my partner originally drove with 1PD off for a year or so. Then decided to try 1PD. She grew comfortable with it after a few days. She prefers it now. I get car sick in any car I'm not driving. I do not get car sick when she's driving in 1PD.

That’s interest that you don’t get car sick

Maybe, if we get to use Waze directly through the head unit and on the infotainment screen (at a barebones minimum)... We already get native app integration (like Spotify) so if Rivian can add more apps like Waze I might get over it. For now I will continue use Waze on my phone in parallel while driving, which isn't my preference obviously.
Have you considered this system?

Ok, so I did some reading and this is worse than I thought. There will definitely be some ripples.

“Firefighters were still at the plant working around 1 a.m. Wednesday, according to dispatches.

Flames and smoke from the plant were visible for miles, according to responding firefighters and nearby residents posting on social media.

Novelis, headquartered in Atlanta, is a major producer of aluminum products and is the world’s largest recycler of aluminum. It employs 13,170 people worldwide, including about 1,200 in Scriba.

The Scriba facility was Novelis’ first U.S. operation and remains its largest wholly owned fabrication plant in North America. It produces more than a billion pounds of aluminum sheet each year for the automotive, beverage can and building and construction markets.”

Here come the ripples.

“Ford Motor Co. said it's working to minimize manufacturing disruptions after a fire took out a New York plant that supplies roughly 40% of the aluminum sheet used in the auto industry.”
About a dozen automakers use aluminum from Novelis, including Ford, Chrysler-maker Stellantis NV, Toyota Motor Corp., Hyundai Motor Co. and Volkswagen AG, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. Stellantis spokesperson Jodi Tinson said the company is monitoring the situation at Novelis.

This is not going to be good for consumers. Automakers are considering importing aluminum to keep the assembly lines on, but a tariff on Aluminum goes into effect Nov 1st and we currently don’t have a domestic manufacturer that can replace the production of the plant that burned down.

Unintended consequences are still consequences.
