We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

Yeah I mean that's cool but they aren't really doing anything all that special, they're basically just throwing more power at it.

I build and fly FPV drones and we've had those types of C-ratings in lipo packs for drones for years. Put enough of those cells together and push a MegaWatt at them and sure you'll have ridiculously fast charging times. The challenge is to actually be able to reliably get MegaWatt grid connections for a widespread charging network and to ensure the cells survive years of that type of charging.

It's impressive sure, but it's not exactly a breakthrough or anything.
The special part is the 10c charging rates that nobody has come close to yet.
 
GM unveils new ‘groundbreaking’ EV battery tech, aims to be first to market

{WARREN, Mich. — General Motors expects to pioneer a new “groundbreaking” EV battery technology that the automaker says will reduce costs and boost profitability of its largest electric SUVs and trucks.

GM is targeting the new batteries and chemistry inside them — called lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic battery cells — to be used in full-size electric vehicles such as its Chevrolet Silverado and Escalade IQ beginning in 2028.




The new batteries use more-prevalent, less-expensive minerals like manganese instead of larger amounts of cobalt and nickel that are currently used in EV batteries from GM and other automakers.

Different EV battery chemistries impact everything from the range and safety of EVs to energy efficiency and charging capabilities, among other needs.

“LMR unlocks the premium range and performance at an affordable cost,” said Kurt Kelty, GM vice president of battery, propulsion and sustainability, during a media event at the automaker’s tech and design campus in suburban Detroit. “It’s a game-changing battery for electric trucks.”}

Great information as the Chevy Silverado EV Trailboss max range has my eye right now. It is freaking heavy and expensive (88k) but range could be around 460 miles. Plus seing lots of issues with 2024/2025 models. So by 2028 I will look at Scout Terra Total EV , Rivian and Chevy Trailboss with new battery technology in that order. But I am soooo worried that the % of Scouts reservation holders being obsessed with the Harvester that battery r&d is going to lag behind. Hope not but not looking good.

They haven’t said they are prioritizing one over the other that I am aware of. I just continue to be confident in Scout and they are investing so much money in this endeavor it wouldn’t make sense to me to sacrifice for the other.

It’s not like Toyota or Honda makes terrible ICE vehicles because they are focusing on Hybrid.

Like any company with multiple products I would expect them to put equal effort into all their products.

Well we are going to have a change in attitude. I always say we put out into the universe what we want to happen. SM hasn’t let me down yet. They designed exactly what I want and I’m just confident it’s going to continue moving in that direction.

Keep in mind-GM didn’t present a functioning vehicle with this technology. Everyone can say everything to keep the spotlight on them but until it’s on the lot at a $ that works and a warranty to match it’s just research being proven-not research being used

I am not sure about that part. The Trail Boss trim has been pretty bare bones on features. It’s usually a work truck package with a factory lift and a G80 rear locker. Very spartan interior and tiny radio display. They still use halogen bulbs in 2025. Lol

It will be interesting to see where they price it since the current offerings have more bougie trim levels.


The article fleshes out the conversation of offroad EVs. In order to give them decent range there is a compounding problem of building a large enough battery and cost. It will perform poorly offroad because it will weigh nearly 5 tons and has poor approach and departure angles.

The article then shifts to… why you should buy a Scout with Harvester instead 😁

Battery is way easier and was in development a long time before the Harvester was announced. Hope that helps.
