What are y'all hoping Scout Community UX™ might bring?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Hearing about the Scout Community UX™ software definitely stirred some excitement inside me...

I believe during the presentation they just highlighted a couple things like that the passenger had their own volume dial + easy screen access, but I'm kinda hoping there's something more to this.

For instance, what if they add the ability for Scouts to:
    - find each other over GPS (opt-in/out of course)
    - have a virtual CB radio to call nearby Scouts (would be a nice retro touch! and again opt-in/out)
    - connect with one another as friends,
    - set up car clubs,
    - take pictures and videos using the Scout's cameras and share them,
    - set interesting points of location for other Scouts to find (this could be really fun in an offroading setting)

We know that the software will allow for over-the-air updates, and if I'm not mistaken it's built in partnership with Rivian, so I'm imagining a pretty advanced setup. These things don't seem too farfetched to me, so I'm hoping that the team comes up with some new, exciting ways for Scouts to connect with one another via the Community UX. That'd be a whole new frontier for cars to take on and I think Scout could make it happen in a really cool way!

What about y'all? Any ideas you'd like to see incorporated in the Community UX?

There are some other great threads from early on with lots of ideas but this is first I could find. @Harris005 has a number of posts with similar ideas but it’s late and my brain is sleepy ?
Maybe others recall the threads to share!

Oh this is great! Appreciate you linking me to it. I might squash my thread in favor of that one and share my ideas there.

Edit: well, maybe I'll leave it up for a little in case others chime in with more related threads.

The older ones have been around so they are stale but figured you might see other ideas. I’m hoping someone from the early group remembers the other thread(s) because there were a lot of ideas that were unique and nobody else is doing-just don’t remember the thread names

I would love to see a highly sophisticated UX but in all honesty my #1 concern is reliability. I want a UX that is highly responsive with little/no glitching or lag and to have Android Auto/Apple CarPlay consistently connect. I have found this to be an issue across every brand of vehicle I own or have rented. Cutting edge features such as GPS linking between Scouts would be awesome since my husband and I have both models on pre-order and are active in overlanding but I would take an industry-standard UX if it worked like a dream.

(Sup other lady on this forum, please don’t leave me alone)

What do you mean by reliability? What sort of glitching or lag have you had with connections? My only experience with Car Play has been with loaners/rentals and I’ve never had problems connecting to any of them, which has made me that much more bitter that my car is too old and feeble for CarPlay unless I rip out the factory infotainment setup and install a new one.

Good news (based on the assumption that Scout will draw from the Rivian well & based on the VW infusion) is that the Rivian UX / Ui is the best out of every vehicle I have ever owned. Not only in terms of ease of use and excellent integration of features and functionality, but also b/c of stability and reliability. I have probably only re-booted and reset the SW (which is also simple with the steering wheel controls) a few times a year. I had one glitch withe recent Halloween update Rivian dropped, where the screen went blank... Put in park and the system came back on and it was cleared and fine. I think we will see excellent responsiveness and reliability.

“Great vehicles require great software,” Scout CEO Scott Keogh said in a statement after the conclusion of the media call with Rivian and VW. “It makes total sense to combine American manufacturing and technology to deliver Scout vehicles that customers want to own and love. This next-generation software-defined vehicle architecture will beautifully complement our Scout Community UX, enabling us to provide our customers with the tactile controls and connection they desire with the responsiveness and easy-to-use interface they demand.”

I hope this is indeed what happens. I know folks keep making this link between Rivian and Scout like it’s a bad thing, but I’m not really seeing a downside. You of course know this as an owner, @R1TVT, but for those who don’t, Rivian trucks have a secret storage compartment where one could hide, among other things, a whole tuna. That fish pocket pretty much sold me on the need for having an R1T. I have never before wanted a pick-up truck so badly in my life since I knew that it had that cubby hole in which unwieldy stuff can be stashed. Using it as a pop-out kitchen? ?

I’d love some hands-on time with any actual Rivian apart from staring longingly at one in the parking lot or garage. There’s a storefront on Newbury Street, but I don’t know if they’d shoo me away with a broom for being curious or be charmed that I “just want to look” and throw me a whole sardine and a let me have a long, meaningful look.

I have not been there, but I think that is exactly why Rivian put that Newbury street location in... I was invited to go to the opening but couldn't make it. I will check it out next time i'm in BOS with some time to kill... You should def go.

Oh, really? I did look at their website, and it sounds like it’s a place where it’s fine to come in and look. The fact that it’s in the 400 block also suggests “we will not throw you out without an appointment” and indeed it sounds like you can roll in whenever and only need an appointment if you’d like a demo drive. Cool!!! Thanks for the tip!

Sorry to derail this from UX/UI discussion, folks.

Haha, all good! No worries about derailing here. Granted I'm re-reading the rules to the "suggestion box" now and feeling personally guilty about not really following the guidelines for keeping the subject line narrowed to one clear request. But, what can I say? I'm new, haha. ?

But, good points everybody! Totally agree with ya @MHowe that we want a glitch-free-as-can-be system. And, I'm really glad to hear that your Rivian has been solid on that front, @R1TVT ... that definitely bodes well! And like you @Scoutsie I've totally longingly looked at many a Rivian from the outside, but have never actually gotten to venture inside. The nearest place I could go to test drive one is in Richmond, VA (~4 hours away) so that's probably not gonna happen unless I had the mind to buy one. Which that little R2 is quite cool and the price is certainly nice, but I'm pretty dang sold on the Traveler!

Appreciate y'all all chiming in. I did not expect to come back to so many messages! ?

Agreed! And I like your last name. *grin*

    Haha, great comment! ?

And y'all really do make a good point about reliability & responsiveness. When you're out there on the trail overlanding together, the last thing you'd want is for the software to start stuttering or worse, give out on you!

I'm feeling optimistic though and looking forward to seeing more updates on this front. Keepin' my fingers crossed. ?

Good news. These trucks will have a SW architecture and redundancies that appear more like airplanes than ICE trucks, and even if you have some sort of "glitch" in your SW, your physical and mechanical systems will / should remain unaffected. It would be extremely rare for a SW glitch to disable a vehicle completely while it was being operated. This is probably a big plus for Scout with VW's Rivian investment and Rivian's innovations around Zonal Architecture (which Scout will be a beneficiary of!) https://rivian.com/en-GB/newsroom/a...swagen-group-announce-plans-for-joint-venture

Well, that is all music to my ears!

I've been hearing about this partnership quite a bit and am excited about the outcomes. Appreciate the link and ya parsing the top-line details for us!

Hearing about the Scout Community UX™ software definitely stirred some excitement inside me...

Love this thread idea! I was excited to see the Community UX integrated.

On a past post (long read sorry ? https://scoutmotors.community.forum...enabled-in-the-car-or-interface.155/post-2111 ) I had mentioned the idea of everyone riding in the Scout has their phone displayed as an icon on the touch screen. This would allow a front seater to select who's phone everyone is listening to. That stays locked until someone else is selected. The frustration was my daughter always plugging in her phone in the backseat usb to charge it, and it automatically changed the music to her playlist instead of what we were all listening to. I'm bringing this up again, because Scout Motors did mention the Community UX was for friends in the front seat. Friends and family ride in the back too. Make sure to include them ?

Love the GPS idea as well. @IdahoJOAT mentioned doing something simular to Polaris' Ride Command. The video attached in this link is a pretty cool starting point!

Glad you're digging this discussion! ? I really do think there's a lotta potential here with this UX.

And I'm loving your idea of using icons for seamless switching between different phones in the car + the lock to stop any unwanted connections from happening. I'm a big music lover and road trips with friends are a great opportunity to share some tunes, so really digging what you're saying about making it easy for all passengers in the car to be able to connect and weigh in on music choices without hurdles (unless of course, it's a driver locking their kid out from taking over ?).

As for that thread ya dropped, I appreciate it and you can bet I'll be combing through it. Just took a glance and woooaaa... I see what you mean. Looks like I got a bit of catching up to do, haha!
