Success

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

If you plan on having success with the new Scout production line, you need to roll up your sleeves and add gas & diesel power plants to the options! The market and most U. S . Consumers are trending back to internal combustion power plants for their transportation needs. Great start VW! Don’t blow it by leaving such a big void in your line of vehicles. Gas engines are the bread and butter key to your success!

This is untrue. EV sales are still increasing at the expense of ICE sales, it's just that the rate of increase has slowed.

There is no doubt that in 2027 when the Scouts Debut, more EVs will be sold everywhere than this year.

I totally agree with you man. This is a perfect platform for a full ICE option(s). I would get behind a diesel one any day as I am a huge sucker for diesel. We can dream big!

“Everywhere” maybe but not in the USA. And definitely not in the SUV market. ICE’s are the heart & soul of off-road vehicles. Critical, (possibly fatal) marketing error on VW’s part not to include ICE in the overall plans for Scout production line and ability to advance the brand past a niche market segment.

How much reading have you done on this?

Why bother wasting text. Thanks for starting yet another thread to tell a major company supported by an even larger company that they are wrong. Perhaps you are the wrong buyer for this product. Sometimes you need to realize you can’t have everything your way.
Nothing makes this forum happier than seeing newby members making their first (and repetitive) post offering their automotive management knowledge to give an opinion. Spend a few minutes reading before posting more words and learn that this decision is already made.
Scout was an innovator when it first started and in that heritage effort they will be innovators again. Stand on the side lines at the gas pump and enjoy the rest of us enjoying our awesome Scouts.
Have a wonderful day!

Again. If you read articles that aren’t one sided you will learn you are incorrect. EV’s are more ideal for off roading than ICE perhaps short of weeks on end overlanding which is like 2% or less of the buying public. You can argue all you want on this forum but most likely you will be shut down over and over by members who are way more knowledgeable on this topic than you are. At this point you are already losing the argument. If your joy is egging people on then you’ll enjoy your approach but it doesn’t excuse your lack of proper knowledge.
If your argument is that current off-road SUV’s are majority gas then you win the argument but as a whole with new vehicle sales, EV are growing year after year. You miss the point that probably 80%+ members here are Scout enthusiasts or off-road enthusiasts. That said, I will guess less than 30% of final buyers will be enthusiasts and of that 5-8% will be off-roaders. The rest will be daily drivers and commuters and that is where sales success comes from. If you can’t be open minded to this then keep living in your close minded world and be bitter it isn’t an ICE.

I have nothing against EV. They are great for urban commuters. Time will tell if VW’s investment pays off. I’m just concerned that they may be gagging their optimistic projections on the Euro market embracing EV as the only way forward. You have to acknowledge the U.S. market differs, especially in the SUV sector. Don’t be surprised if at some point they incorporate ICE into the options. Actually I was very excited to see the return of the Scout, and that’s why I started investigating who was responsible for the resurrection. Hopefully they will be very successful. As I said, time will tell who is right. You may just be under the ether. The good news is it will wear off. The bad news it will leave you with an awful headache. And maybe a very expensive one. Best of luck!??

Things are always the same, until they change. Things are starting to change.

Besides , they are selling models with a gas powered range extender, that should cover most "critical" need for an ICE.

It doesn't seem like there is any need for some kind of ICE only version.

Pure combustion vehicle sales have been in decline in the USA for years. Hybrids, and electric vehicles are growing in share every year.

Toyota has been in headlines recently for having over 50% of their September and October sales being electrified (hybrid or full electric). And meanwhile some brands that offer no hybrids are having a hard time (Nissan). So I think we will continue to see more and more hybrids/full battery vehicles, while pure combustion vehicles will continue to decline.

The Harvester is the gas powered option for Scout. Essentially it acts as a built in generator for the vehicle, but the vehicle itself is driven by electric motors. This is how trains have been built for decades.

We don’t know exactly how scout is designing the harvester engine option, but many of us have the hope that it will be “gas and go”, meaning you could in theory drive perpetually without charging. When charged you’ll get your 150 miles of EV range for around town. And then off the grid or on trips you’ll be able to use gas, covering both scenarios pretty well.

FWIW, the harvester seems to be extremely popular, as you said a combustion version would be. It currently has an ~81% take rate from what we can tell.

I’m glad you’ve got nothing against EVs. Regarding the investment made in Scouts, here’s something to consider…

If you think “oh, well no big deal, they can just roll over to ICE,” not so much. These were designed to be EVs. All of that design and engineering work needs to be done all over again. That’s a ton of lost time and money. As we know, Volkswagon is kind of broke at the moment, so they can’t throw a couple more billion at Scout to completely change direction. Where’s that hot cash injection going to come from? I very much doubt that they’d do that because the wind recently changed direction.

If you’ve got nothing against EVs, consider sticking around and learning more about them. They save people a lot of money that they’d have otherwise spent on gas and they have cool features that couldn’t happen with gas-powered engines. If you fear that the world is one day going to look a lot like Mad Max’s world, keep a foot in the door of liquid fuel, I guess. That’s your choice to make. You’ll enjoy this forum a lot more if your intro isn’t “DO GAS OR YOU SUCK (you’re wrong to disagree ✌️?)”.
