What Was The Biggest Automotive Story Of 2024?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
To me it would be something like this:

EV News: The Scout and then the ultimate disaster of the new Dodge Charger

ICE News: The return of Tim Kuniskis to Ram and possible resurrection of the Hellcat Engines

For me, it was the EPA allowing California to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles. I thought their job was to set regulations. Hmmm.....
EPA didn't allow California to do anything... States have to meet at minimum any federal laws but they can have more stringent state laws or regulations that go above and beyond the federal level. In this case California is choosing to set their state requirements beyond what the federal laws and regulations require.

Remember states can be more restrictive with their laws and regulations, at a minimum they must be equal with federal regulations they cannot be less restrictive than the federal law or regulation. This is why you see so many lawsuits from the state AG offices when they don't want to meet the federal minimum requirements for one reason or another.

It has to be the rise of the Chinese auto industry. It has taken enthusiasts, politicians, and more importantly the auto industry by storm. Enthusiasts who put aside their boo-China attitude and actually drive/review these cars are shocked at the quality and tech. Politicians scrambled to enact protectionist tariffs. The Western automotive industry has seen massive declines in their Chinese markets and have spoken outwardly about their newfound competition.

I was at the NAIAS in 2008 when China presented some of their cars in North America for the first time ever. It was a laughing stock and rightfully so. You had shoddy quality, copycats, or just straight up goofy cars being presented. They left humiliated however for me that's when the clock started ticking. While their industry has slowly and steadily become more competitive over the years, 2024 was the year the Western world finally woke up to it.
