Vehicle locking

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

So I wrapped up judging an archery tournament and had a first.
It rained all day so I threw a bunch of things in the trunk, closed and went for more. When I returned my trunk was open-odd!!!
Closed it and it popped open. After several rounds of this I realized my key fob was in the trunk in my rain jacket.
I know most cars won’t lock if you leave your fob inside but having never thrown keys in a trunk I guess I didn’t know trunk would pop open.
Is the trunk thing typical in all new cars? Has anyone else experienced this? Do SUVs with hatches refuse to close if keys are in? I loved the feature so I hope it’s typical.
Guess my other question is if we luck out with a tailgate and hatch will the locking technology work for that too? Which portion reopens, etc?
I certainly would like that but wondering about other’s experiences?

I’m sure this won’t happen but I would like to be able to lock the fob in a secure console or glovebox and lock the doors with a normal, non-electronic key. When I go to the beach or lake, I hate having to worry about getting the fob wet with a modern car. I hate going in the water hoping I don’t lose the fob or the waterproof pouch leaks and ruins it - either of which will strand me. The alternative being to hide it in my shoe where no one will ever look.

I know they make the activity wristbands which would be great for a need like you mentioned but I wouldn’t want that as my daily means. Cell phone app is nice to for daily but again defeats purposes if you are doing heavy water based activities. I agree with your wants as that is my struggle too

Never had a trunk open but when we stop somewhere with wife's bimmer and she wants to lock her purse in trunk I make sure she removes the keys as I would assume the vehicle would unlock for anyone as long as keys are onboard

However just driving a rental Volvo and it would not start until I pulled keys out of my pocket and put them in center console which I thought was strange since it unlocked no problem.

My Bronco keys always are in my pocket and that's a whole 6G thread about people without pockets I suppose.

Our BMW does come with a credit card key which can be used instead of a fob. Maybe that is a possible Scout feature- completely keyless if we choose

You should lock your wife in the trunk with the key and then close it to see if it stay shut or re-opens. If it doesn’t she can pop the back open using the fob ?
