Standard Bed Utility

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

There are a handful of posts on here regarding bed utility, camper shells, etc. But one thing I would like to recommend and reiterate is the need for a "standard bed". Something that can easily accept bed caps, tonneau covers, camper shells, etc. The Silverado/Sierra EV have the cool mid-gate and aerodynamics, but the nature of the rear wing means you cannot use a standard cap/camper, which is a deal breaker for many, including myself.

From the pictures and videos, it seems the Scout has some extra features going on behind the cab, maybe handles or aerodynamic features. My hope is that these don't interfere with bed accessories.

IMO, since the truck is nearly identical in size to the F-150, they should design the bed to have the same dimensions as the F-150 so people who don’t want to wait can buy an F-150 cap or camper on day 1 instead of having to wait for the aftermarket to catch up. This would also open the Scouts to the market for all the other accessories you mentioned. It’s silly to have a bunch of minor differences that add up to nothing important but ensure incompatibility.

The right companies will work around that. GFC did for Rivian (for example).
Good point, and I’m sure some companies will come out with solutions but they will be more limited. More options and competition is always good for the consumer.

In terms of the Rivian and GFC, although Rivian is a unibody design in terms of bed/cab, it’s a more standard shape so the GFC topper isn’t dramatically different than the topper for another truck. Obviously it requires a little more time and design, but isn’t as significant of a change compared to the Chevy/GMC.

I currently have a Lightning and my favorite part about it is that it shares so much with the regular F150, makes getting accessories and parts, especially on the bed and interior, way easier

I also drive a Lightning. And that’s one of the reasons we bought it: it has access to a huge aftermarket.

If the Scout adopted the dimensions as well, it would certainly save me a lot of money if I decided to move to the Terra. If they don’t, I’ll have to add in the cost of all of the bed accessories that I like to the cost of the Terra. That could add up to 10% or more of the purchase price.

Saw-Zaw and duct tape. You’ll be up and rolling in a day or two 😀

It's very non-standard due to the spoiler, light, shark fin and the buttons on the top of bed rails that actuate the gear tunnel and buttons that actuate the tailgate. The attachment points are also a consideration under the bedrails. GFC put a lot of effort into that development actually.

I love my tool box as much as my truck. It requires a standard bed
