What he meant, obviously, is that the capability will outweigh its expense, and will give the brand two things it can use more of… a unique selling point (USP) that no other pure EV’s can boast, and a direct competitor for the only segment where Jeep has all but zero rivals.I will argue about ALL the difference. Many SUVs aren’t flat towable. Will it benefit them-yeah-but percentage of RV drivers is probably only a couple percent based on 200,000 units a year. I’m guessing less than 1% a year, especially after first year or two enthusiast’s rush. Annual RV sales are upper 300,000 units a year (North America so that includes Canada) and not everyone buying a new RV is also buying a new towable so maybe 1-1/2% max of buyers on a good year but I’m still thinking less than 1%. Depending on the effort required that may not be worth SM time or efforts but they want to be a 50 state vehicle so hope they offer for those who want it, so long as the R&D costs and components don’t add costs for me as a buyer.
The Bronco is really disrupting the die hard Jeep community right now. They have done a great job pointing for the middle of their guts with an arguably better product and are winning. The Bronco Raptor is a better Jeep than has ever been built.
And they are hurting them not just in the dealerships with market share, but in the aftermarket support, the factory support of racing and off road enthusiast groups and a growing rabid fan base of owners who finally have an option.
It’s great to see honestly. I had an FJ Cruiser that was a pretty wildly capable off road vehicle, but it was too big and too nice to do Jeep stuff. Bronco has a bunch of that difference overcome.
I have to imagine that Scout is putting itself directly in competition with these two very established marques for a reason… and it is likely that reason is that there is room for another “non-Jeep” and that they are counting on the same loyalists that drove Scouts to buy them again.
If it can flat tow… I’ll buy it and enjoy it. If it won’t, I can’t use it at all.
