Opportunity to take this truck/suv to the next level for overlanding / car camping.

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Like many others, when i saw the scout truck announcement i was stoked. Because its one of the first off road capable vehicles to be full time electric drive AND offer a built in generator. That generator will sell that car.

Now onto how I think you can make it an even bigger hit:

Mix use AC/DC: most overlanders use DC fridges, and other DC products like diesel heaters. Add DC barrel plugs or terminals to the bed of the truck next to the AC inverter.

On top of this, an optional DC heater for the bed of the truck or a vent port on to top side of the SUV pillar. This will serve to heat either a roof top tent for the SUV, or a “Platform camper” / canopy on the truck.

Threaded inserts on the side of the bedsides: threaded holes will allow users to mount things like molly panels, for extra generator fuel off road.

Threaded inserts along the A pillar near the roof of the SUV: if strong enough, near the rear this will allow molly panel to be attached over the last side window. In the mid section an awning.

Tri fuel geneator: a super cool feature of the truck could be a tri fuel or duel fuel generator. Accepting gas, or more preferably diesel. Diesel is safer since it is not very combustible when not under pressure. You are also VW subsidiary, so you guys know what you are doing. Slap a cut down TDI diesel motor in there :)

And finally, the biggest gripe i have with every truck on the market! Canopies and platform campers never produce a good seal to the bed. They always leak where the bedside rails meet the rear and front. To remedy this, you could be the first on the market (competing against Slate) to offer a canopy that direct mounts and seals just like the cab. Super bonus points if you partner with, or engineer your own version of a “super pacific X1” or “lone peak” camper attachment. These are lightweight campers. Offering these, especially under factory/dealer financing would be an insanely big hit. Not even just for overlanders, regular car campers are starting to adopt them as well.

Welcome to the community.

I think the TDI will be a hard no from the VW group because of Dieselgate. Scout would be wise to steer well clear of any association with that.

I question needed any fuel at all, why not use a solar generator instead? Quiet, cheap to run (sunlight is free!), no need for smelly and loud combustion out in the quiet wilderness. Solar is the way to go and someone could get pretty creative with mounting panels such that they serve dual purpose and generate a bunch of energy.

The trucks will definitely have AC and probably have DC barrels plugs too. My current EV already has both (which I also use for camping and astronomy) so I expect the Scouts would too.
