Must haves to purchase…

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

As you all know I really want a YELLOW Traveler. My husband and I had a long drive last week and we went through a thought experiment. He asked me, well what if yellow wasn’t available do you want to continue to wait? And that lead the conversation to what is a must have versus a nice to have. I really had to think about this and this is where we have settle for the moment.

My husband prefers the Harvester. I keep thinking BEV might be the way to go.

So if one or the other is released first and it’s going to be a long wait for the other iteration I would purchase either one.

As for color. Yes I really want a YELLOW Traveler but I really don’t want to wait for additional model years for yellow. By the time the Scout is available my Wrangler will be 15. My other color choices are mushroom or teal blue.

Then roof. I really want the glass roof. If for some reason it wasn’t available I would consider a cabana roof. A solid roof is my breaking point. I feel like I’m in a cave in a solid roof vehicle. So if only solid roofs were available at launch I would wait. That’s something you can’t change later. The roof is the roof.

Interior color. The only colors that are a breaking point for me is all black and all white. As long as they have something that’s not all black or all white I will be fine.

Wheels and tires. I will pick whatever I like the best. Eventually you have to change tires on a vehicle and wheels can be changed as well.

What are your must haves? Do you all have hard stops where if something isn’t available at launch you will wait for the next model years?

It is hard to really tell, but I can look at the past to predict the future. I was really looking forward to purchasing an ID Buzz. So I can look at why I did not.

First failure was timing. They talked about it, and talked about it. I tried to put off replacing our existing mini-van. Then purchased a fun vehicle (Wrangler Unlimited) and kept the old mini-van (thinking I would replace it when the ID Buzz came out). Ended up upgrading the Wrangler Unlimited with a second one. It ultimately replace most of the niche I wanted the Buzz for. We still have the old mini-van, and I still want to use it occasional.

Second, it missed range. It is not a practical replacement for that mini-van. It would complicate rather than simplify trips.

Third, it missed price. I think it is $20-$30k off what they projected (honestly, it might be $50k off its initially advertised price due to dealer fees at the moment).

Fourth - it missed the design. It does not look close enough to what they showed in the concept vehicle. The styling that drew me in simply was not produced.

So too little, too late, too much, and not what I had hoped for. Those are the big 4 Scout probably needs to avoid for me. It could also fail on the test drive experience (the second Wrangler blew me away on the test drive - love the diesel). It would also fail if it is not easily and comfortably campable or dog friendly (2 niches I want it to fill) - and possibly if it can not at least marginally tow my boat (I want it for camping on fishing and kayaking trips).

Quite honestly, that is a high bar for the Scout to get over. It is hard for me to get overly optimistic after the Buzz, but for some odd reason I still am optimistic.

  • Right now, I would like the current Terra livery inside & out on our Traveler.
  • Front Buckets seats with console.
  • BEV with 350 miles of range. Let’s hope they don’t miss this.
  • Glass roof for all the reasons “cyure” has stated.
  • Removable tire carrier if it happens. The filler “panel” should replace the carrier by mounting on the carrier hinge and lock in the gate normally. This way the action of opening the lift & tail gates is the same with or without carrier. Press the latch swing out the Panel and open lift & tail gate normally. If it doesn’t happen, I can do without the carrier but I will miss it. I hope Scout is listening.
  • Ghost Rallye Graphics like on the current Traveler.
  • I think the list of standard equipment is going to be very high, waiting to see before I get much more into detail.
  • A price below $80k

  • BEV with >320 miles range
  • Priced below $60k
  • Less than 75 inches wide without mirrors (Tacoma width)
  • AWD (or 4WD) with rear locker or a minimum of three motors (2 rear, one front)
  • 8+ inches ground clearance
  • Large enough enclosed space for at least one person to sleep inside. I am >6-ft but can sleep in the 5.5-ft bed of the Lightning.
  • Built by a company whose spokespeople/leadership aren't terrible to other humans.

Not trying to be a butt, but this feels like another "Dealbreaker" thread. Ill play too though.

If a front locker isnt available at launch I will wait or reweigh my options.

If I cant get a solid roof with other premium packages then I will wait or look elsewhere.

If it doesnt support V2L or V2V at launch I may wait.

Now that you mention AWD, I wonder if they will use different ratios front and rear?

I know EVs dont use the rear motor after they reach certain speeds so they arent really AWD all the time.

Makes me wonder what that will look like in the normal driving mode.
Some AWD EVs use the same ratio for front and rear, some use a different ratio. Some disengage the front motor, some the rear motor, some use an electronic way to reduce energy use, and many keep both engaged.

With the likelihood of a different front and rear motor & suspension setup on the Scouts, They will almost certainly have different ratios.

Your posts shows while there can be a lot of common ground, you can never please everyone every time. You want a mid sized vehicle, Scout is planning a full sized vehicle. Those 2 markets don't have a ton of crossover. Eventually Scout might build a smaller Sport model - but if they change the existing design to mid sized, that would be a huge bait and switch for a lot of people. They might as well just bolt a Scout front end onto a Rivian.

Yep, one of the things that made me reserve the Terra was dimensions closer to an F-150. If it turned out to be closer to Tacoma size then that would be a dealbreaker for me.

If they can simply come out with something resembling what they have been showing off, I'd be happy. I'm sick of the endless hype from everyone these days.
Welcome.

I think VWs $10B investment in Rivian and billions into Scout pushes this out of the vaporware category.

A lot of EV startups fail because they run out of liquidity, and VW has plenty of cash and credit available to it to keep things on track.

I was more speaking to the endless hype we get from Tesla, all the hubub around small affordable EV's in general, and the comments above regarding the ID.Buzz. I'm fine with keeping people interested and I love me some speculation, but I don't want to see feature creep set in causing a delay in build and/or a runaway price tag.

Well these are definitely not small Evs, and I dont think $60k is what most people consider "affordable".

But I think Scout knows their target market cant really eat a $20k price hike.

I think we all feel the same on here. Give us something close to the concepts and for the price listed at reveal. I understand some features will have an added cost but at least start where they say they are going to start.

They had a presentation at Nats in Ohio in June. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend. I specifically asked an SM employee about the concepts and how close they would be to production models. I was informed they are 85% of what the production models will be.

And during the presentation that was a question from a member of the audience about the price. The SM employee who answered stated they are planning on coming in $20,000 under their competitors.

They are consistent in their messaging and I have a motto. Faith and patience. I have faith in Scout. They haven’t let me down yet. And we all just (unfortunately) have to continue to have patience.

They have said 80-85% accurate version. I can’t imagine the remaining 15% is going to be shrinking the vehicle-I would presume its details and lighting and odds and ends. I just don’t know how they’re going to backwards. I think the size they hit leaves room to size up and down and hits the sweet spot for most SUV buyers who can afford a $60K + vehicle

For me it’s price and options. I hope the base price comes optioned well. I have become spoiled by my air conditioned seats but I suppose it’s not a deal breaker. I prefer leather since it’s easier to clean, 35’s and lockers are basically a must… I have been really torn on BEV vs Harvester. I think the BEV actually makes more sense and removes some serious complexity from the vehicle but it’s not a deal breaker if one if offered before the other. This topic is surprisingly nuanced.

since you asked..ACC..heads up...massage seats (bad back)...good nav system...BOSE sound, had it in my Escalade found it to be the best so far.....silver color choice...I have 33's on my 1978SSII will go for the 35's .......the ability to option like Porsche does....also get it here NOW:):)...ps.just checked the Rivina site and they dont offer massage seats, but many are asking for them on that site as well as here, jusy sayin

I’m right there with you on full BEV vs Harvester.

We have a lot of time to decide, but the more I listen to folks here that own BEVs the more chill I feel about forgoing the Harvester option.
