More Pondering

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
if we’re to give you our budgets can you give us a 1-10 rating on off-road ability?

1 being the worst, 10 being the best.
I don’t think they can give an honest answer until they have test mules on the trails.

At this time I think they just have concept models and only one has a low power electric system that was intended to move it around for car shows and displays.

For what it’s worth we should expect better off road performance than Rivian since they don’t offer a true locker front or rear. But we can’t expect Jeep performance since Scout is using IFS so they won’t have the same level of travel.

The Traveler will probably be comparable offroad to the Lexus GX550 or Bronco and the Terra will probably offer similar performance to a TRD Tundra or Silverado Trail Boss.

We will just have to wait until they get a few units out on the offroad course to be sure.

Since the batteries are under the vehicles, I’m curious how rock sliders or side steps will fit. 🤔 Will be interesting to see.

We have several full powetrain mules already up and running and I think you will see a preview of that soon. These are the earliest development vehicles we will build. This means that they are an actual fully built powertrain variation with our frame, battery and powerbus and software running. However, because we aren't stamping any Scout sheetmetal yet, they get covered in a Frankenstein assortment of *any* body panels that might fit over our chassis. That means a full roll cage, the top of any vehicle we can find that would remotely fit, stretched hoods, modified fenders, etc., etc. These things are f-ugly and covered in the typical white and black camoflage-type patterns you typically see. In other words they don't look like Scouts at all. So keep that in mind if we take you behind the curtain to see some of this development. :D

Width is also my main concern. The listed dimensions are 2.45" wider than my iX. That poses a problem opening the doors in my driveway. The height is also a bit of a concern as my wife is 5'3".
It’s just going to be tighter in my garage. I told my husband I want to get painters tape and outline my Wrangler when it’s in the garage. I have a sneaky feeling it’s wider than I think. I put 285 tires on and I had to get an -12 offset wheel since I didn’t want to lift it and that way the tires wouldn’t rub. So my tires do stick out pretty far. I’m looking forward to not have a death wobble in my Scout.

And when I walk around my neighborhood I look at what everyone has parked in their garages. We have 3 car garages here. So a two car door and then a one car. One house had a Taco in the one car door then an F150 and an MDX in the two car door side. If they can fit all that I should be okay. 🤷‍♀️

I think you will be fine. I live in a very old and urban area. The driveways were put in when horses and carriages were used...pretty tight.

I'm so excited to learn more, as an engineer I love seeing this behind the scenes fugly, chewing gum, and duct tape testbeds!

Will we ever see these eventually? When the Real Scout bodied test mules are out.
