Jeep Recon

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I guess Jeep can’t design their own cars anymore because we stole their guy Chris Benjamin. They basically did a copy and paste of the new Toyota Land Cruiser. It starts at 60k. So Scout still beats it out price wise!

Thank You Chris for coming over to Scout and making the legendary Scouts for 2027!

The Jeep Recon concept (which looks exactly like the production Recon) debuted in 2022 while Chris was there meaning this is a Chris-era vehicle although it's worth noting Chris spent his whole tenure at Stellantis doing interior design. To that point, it takes a team of designers to create a modern vehicle, it's not just one guy.

I had a feeling he was involved because the steering wheel design. But scouts wheel looks more defined.

Still though, we have snagged a Legendary designer!

I feel like the Recon is Jeep’s way of making a Future Wrangler without the name Wrangler attached to. Mind you, Jeep will also make a Wrangler EV at some point but why have 2 cars that are almost identical to each other when you can have 1 I.e. an Electric Wrangler.

Prior to the Scouts being announced, I was very interested in the potential of the Jeep Recon.

As it is, the photos/general vibe of it really haven't done much for me.

I have no problems with it being "not a wrangler", with a future wrangler EV coming as well. To be honest, they have needed something like that ever since the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee lines drifted further from "core Jeep DNA". Something that isn't "hardcore rock crawler", but more of a "any weather/any thing meant to be a 'road'" sort of vehicle.

But with this being fully independent suspension all around, and now showing a pretty low ride height (and small/short wishbones, at least from what we can see in the spy photos), I'm not sure how offroady it will "actually" be.

Also, the removeable doors seems like an odd thing to toss onto a vehicle like that. Not many people do that with Wranglers, which should be the core group most likely to do it. The further you get away from that, the less sense it makes to me.

I drove a Wrangler (well, it was my dads, when I was in High school, so I drove it occasionally), and we wheeled it together. We never took the doors off. We DID remove upper half of the half doors, since those were easy to remove/small enough to put in the rear of the jeep once we got to the trailhead. But removing full doors for offroading? Its a lot more work.

Jeep has added the Jeep Recon 4xe to its website:

I’d do the 4-runner or Land Cruiser before this if Scout wasn’t an option.
As many issues as we had with our Bronco I think I’d try Bronco again before recon. Just don’t get it if you can do a Wrangler. I guess if you are dead set on an EV then maybe Recon will appeal but if I want to risk Jeep issues I’d just go 2-door Wrangler.

    This is STLA chassis based.

Everything Stellantis will release in the next decade is STLA chassis based. It's designed to adapt like lego's to whatever is needed, ICE, BEV, car, truck.

It's why the new Charger is huge, because it's literally a car body dropped onto a Wagoneer chassis.

Like most new Stellantis vehicles since I've left, it's over priced for the market, they wanted that premium marked up EV buyer from Tesla, who was never going to shop them anyway.

Like all failing Big 3 EV's, it won't fail because people hate EV's, it will fail for being over priced and contented. Then the headlines will scream because it's an EV.

Doors off for off-roading is nice because you can see terrain, also easier to hop in and out. Even city Jeeps will have a metal bar type door in summer. It’s not uncommon though I wouldn’t say the majority of Jeeps. This Jeep came with soft doors. The upper section lifted free of the bottom section. The bottom section hinges were a simple pin hinge like a residential interior door. The soft half doors were pretty easy to put in rear floorboard so once off trail you could slot them back in in about a minute. Jeep stopped selling them with soft doors but still available aftermarket. The hard doors are kind of heavy and awkward to put on and off. I can’t immediately find a photo with the bar door but they’re kind of fun in summer. I personally won’t be removing Scout doors though…and it won’t be going to Pritchett Canyon, either, lol.

The broncos are cute…sorry to hear they’re problematic. There’s no EV option though so not tempted…the Scout seems like a dream for me, especially with the EREV tech. Ram was thinking their EREV truck would hit US market in 2025 but don’t know if that’s still on track.

Yeah- I get it. I liked the look of the Bronco a lot just too many quality issues. As for the Scout, I’m here for the Scout and not the EV-that’s just something I accepted and over two years have come to find-based on others experiences - is something I’m willing to try. Our Honda Pilot will serve as our long hauler ?

Each vechicle serves it own purpose, when I think of doors off, I think this is great for the trails more so than road driving. It's great to have removeable doors for easy access for getting in/out and visibility. I don't foresee the Recon reaching that demographic, I could be wrong. Most states prohibit the option to drive with the doors off, and to be honest, this instills fear from debris flying up, accident, and wind + noise >55mph. I've turned into an old man, I'll admit this much. It will be interesting to see the success or lack with the Recon, but competition is good, it's pushing other manufacturers to do more and a great time for consumers to be in the space.

Doors off is a gimmick same as the Wrangler/Glafdiator.

They know perfectly well they're going to stay on. Same as they know perfectly well they're going to stay on road.

They're selling an image/idea. They CAN come off, it CAN go offroad, you COULD be that guy on the energy drink commercial.
