Bench Seat vs Standard

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Old school bench please ;-).
I keep struggling. I’d really like a bench but I don’t always like people and heaven forbid I have to haul a lot of people and end up with someone smack next to me -Eeewwww!
I’ll have to wait to see both final versions before I make my final call because bench seats are awesome and after 25+ years of marriage I can pretend my wife might shimmy on over nice and close 😀

I’m go back and forth but I think I’ve decided no bench. But I will probably change my mind a million more times.

It will definitely depend on the final design. If the front bench has a useful fold down center section for when the 3rd seat is not needed, well then maybe.
My question is is it going to be divided so the sections can move and recline independently. For example we are driving to nationals Friday and it’s about a 5 hour drive. I would want to be able to recline a lot in the passenger seat. That’s why I’m thinking of not going bench seat.

Ya. If it is a standard old bench design with single recline. No thank you.

Back in 1982, we bought a 1983 Ford Ranger with a bench seat and four on the floor. My wife, would always “shimmy” over and sit next to me. I’m sure if the Traveler front bench works out and we decide to go with that option, even after 43 years of marriage, she’d still “shimmy” over to sit next to me. It’s one of the many pro ticks on the pro/con list. :)

I am still really torn between getting the Bench Seat or the Regular Seat!

I am definitely getting bucket seats with a center console. I have owned a pickup with the bench seat and fold down console (200x Dodge Ram Quad-cab) and I only tilted the console up to use the bench seat twice in 7 years of ownership. I prefer the bucket seats with a center console. It is not even about the extra storage for me, I prefer the comfort of a good bucket seat.

I am glad they are offering the option of a bench seat for the people that really want it. I know there are some people that prefer it, and not just for nostalgia's sake. For them I am sure it will be great. So kudos to Scout Motors for offer the bench seat as an option.

I’m leaning in your camp but nostalgia is my hesitation

Exactly, I’ve been married more than 3 decades and have fond memories of my wife sitting right next to me in our ‘85 F250. I’m sure the designers will deliver a fold down center console within the seat design, but I would even take a bench seat without the modern convenience. Doesn’t anyone miss putting stuff on a bench seat for it to later roll all over and onto the floor or between the seat and passenger door at the first turn made… ha ha ha.

I have fond memories of the front bench in my Ram from my teenage years.

Half the reason I put down a deposit was for a bench seat, because my wonderful wife has never experienced the joys of, uh, long road trips cuddling together…

EDIT: I’m lost, this isn’t the Traveler side of the forum. Still, bench seat for life (preferably with a driver/center/passenger split).
