We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

    Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

Driving through Phoenix today. The official temperature is around 113-115 ⁰F.

This is what the car thermometer reads. The thermometer has to have a clear "view" of the tarmac. Still, in my 50+ years in AZ, I've never had a thermometer on a car read that high.

My thoughts exactly. I have had spring and summer experiences in a Tesla Model Y and the roof shade needed to be in 100% of the time because of the heat in the frequent sunshine. Seemed pointless to even have the glass roof “feature” since it was always covered. Obviously if you don’t live in a sunny area you’ll likely have a different experience.

I’m surprised that heat is being felt through the top. As explained in my post.
I think he’s saying he’s surprised about people’s concern about too much sunlight and heat coming through the panoramic glass roof.
Sunlight no - I can see that (pun intended). I just haven’t felt heat at all through either of my pano roofs. And I’m a bald dude, lol. Not taking anything away that’s it’s possible, it just surprises me a bit is all.

I’ve had it in a model 3 and now bmw iX. No problem in South Carolina either. Pano roof is my current preferred option.

Didn't a lot of Rivian people complain about how much heat the roofs let in? Did they just use subpar glass coatings?

The issue with glass roofs isn't the sensible heat coming in as you sit under it.

It's another route for any light to enter. In almost all cases, light that's absorbed is re-emitted at a longer wavelength. Visible light getting into the car and being absorbed by the interior materials is re-emitted as infrared light (heat). With the IR coating on the roof and most of the rest of the glass, the heat is then trapped in the car. The glass roof with an IR coating reduces the total energy that gets into the car compared with a glass roof without, but the extra square footage of the glass roof increases the total energy trapped in the car compared with no glass roof.

I still just love that open air look and my hair doesn’t get blown around.

I’m 95% glass roof and there’s that 5% of me that says cabana.

I understand the mechanics, but why do I see notably more complaints about Rivians with few complaints about other OEMs? Perhaps the HVAC system isn't as robust and unable to make up for the solar gain? Or perhaps their glass is lacking some filtering? Maybe Rivian drivers are just more prone to complaining, haha.

Any feedback from current owners?

Can't answer that. Maybe it's the relative size of the glass? Maybe it's not using the same coatings?

See that’s the problem for me with long hair and a convertible top.
No pony tail my hair is blowing around and all tangled when I get to where we are going. Pony tail and my neck hurts because I can have my head comfortably against the head rest. It’s an issue.
