5klbs towing cap with gas range extender?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Watched the CEOs video with Leno and he mentioned that the towing capacity will drop from 10klbs to 5klbs with the range extender (if I understood correctly). This was extremely disappointing and seemed strange after he mentioned that the heavy duty mode will favor the engine. I hope that scout can revisit this. I changed my reservation to the pure EV because of this. Still excited for 2027!

Welcome to the community! Just an FYI we aren’t locked in with our reservation to any particular model. When we place our order we can choose from either vehicle and either variation. When we place our order is when we become locked in.

That Jay Leno comment has caused quite a stir on the forum. We don’t have final numbers as of yet. I’m just sticking with my motto of faith and patience and unfortunately it’s still a waiting game for the final specs.

Welcome again!

No hard reason was release for the why. We guessed a lot, but that is about it. Scout responded that specs were still subject to change.

It has been a while since I saw the video, but if I remember correctly they were talking about the Traveler, which has a 7K towing capacity. So it was the Traveler which dropped to 5K with the Harvester. If you want to take an optimistic approach, the Harvester dropped the towing capacity by 2K. That would make the Terra's towing capacity drop from 10K to 8K.

But that is pure speculation, as others have said we don't have final numbers yet. We are all waiting on final numbers, some less patiently than others. :p

Welcome aboard. And until they do official sales and specs everything is open for change. Enjoy the forum!

Here’s what Scott had said in that interview with Leno.

“Look, on the electric vehicle, on the truck. The Terra here, up to 10,000lbs. So, real deal, payload about 2,000lbs. On the Traveler, a little bit less, about 7,000lbs. When we get to the range extender both of them were able to do about 5,000lbs, so we’ve got authentic towing vehicles.” - Scott Keogh

So, I’m personally still not holding them to that. It’s early on, they still don’t have things dialed in. I can’t see them not doing their damndest to get that towing number up.
