  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Should There Be an EV "Tax Penalty"?

Exactly. Maybe it's because I'm Canadian but I don't subscribe to the "user-pay" model for many things. Roads are a public good. That means their upkeep is beneficial to society whether you actually use them or not. Roads are generally free to use as needed and should be repaired accordingly...

Should There Be an EV "Tax Penalty"?

You still pay tax on your home electricity so you still pay some tax on what you drive but basically yes. Here in Canada we have a carbon tax (for now) and some people are always whining and complaining about it and I just ask them if they've ever considered not having to pay it? Like if you...

Should There Be an EV "Tax Penalty"?

General speaking no, gas taxes don't go towards road maintenance. They go into general revenue just like other taxes. Here in Ontario Canada we don't pay a registration fee anymore and there are no special taxes on EVs. Our gas tax goes to pay for extra stuff the government wants to do like...

How do you plan to kit out your interior?

You definitely won't need the Chademo adapter. That's a dead standard, there aren't many stations that support it, and the adapters are super expensive. You might want to include a CCS adapter though. As for the NEMA adapters I expect the level 1/2 charger that comes with the vehicle will have...

How do you plan to kit out your interior?

For me it'll be the following items: - Scouter blanket (since I'm a Scout Leader) - Ranger blanket (from when I was in the army) - I'm hoping to keep both blankets rolled and have some way to attach them to the back of the front seats or the walls of the trunk. Rivian showed off a cool blanket...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

I have real world experience using my EV to power household things during an outage. A few years back we had a derecho knock out power to most of the city for about a week. The grid took heavy damage to the point where they were working around the clock just to get power back to hospitals and...

    Whinin’ and cryin’

It's a fantastic car and I'm really happy with it. Highly recommend. I'm hoping Scout liberally 'borrows' the many good ideas that Hyundai has implemented in their Ioniq lineup because I think Hyundai/Kia are leading in the EV space right now. They could do a lot worse than benchmarking off an...

    Whinin’ and cryin’

Actually I know several people with electric Konas and they love them. I think the "unreliability" thing is more with the gas version, the electric version looks to be really good. And yeah, that is a great yellow but I think VW has the best yellow, there are a few Golfs running around with this...

What is More Important? - EV Charge Time or EV Range

I disagree with your conclusions here. First of all EVs have always had a cost advantage. They may only compete on sticker price with luxury vehicles for the most part but on operating costs there's no contest, EVs are dramatically less expensive to own and operate. As for needing to charge "as...

    Whinin’ and cryin’

I'm kinda used to waiting for a new EV to start production unfortunately. I waited two years to get my current ride, an Ioniq 5, so this is about the same. I pre-ordered that one based on the reviews overseas and stuff and was number 78 in line in Canada which was kinda fun. The only thing it...

Bi-directional Charging / Home Power Backup

Tesla also supports V2H with their Cybertruck so it's not just Ford but yeah, what you said is correct. The main issue seems to be that there is no agreed upon industry standard on how to do it. Ford has their own proprietary V2H solution and so does Tesla (and Nissan but only in Japan although...

    Scout Sales Strategy: Territory Ambassadors

Oh mine will be almost always covered in mud and dirt from camping trips and such! I feel like having a truck like this and keeping it clean would be a bit of a travesty.

    Scout Sales Strategy: Territory Ambassadors

I had a very similar experience with my Ioniq 5. I was an early pre-order (number 78 in Canada!) so I got my vehicle months before most other people did. I couldn't go anywhere without random strangers stopping me in parking lots and asking what kind of car was it, and how did I buy it, plus all...

Offer it with a gas motor

Don't hold your breath. There have been a lot of promises and hype about solid state batteries over the years and there's been nothing to show for it. Making things in a lab environment is a far cry from making things work in the real world. Maybe we'll see them in the 2030's maybe not. If...

Offer it with a gas motor

The issue is that the current most popular lithium battery chemistry (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt aka NMC) is self-oxidising so it makes the fires harder to cool down and put out (fire triangle and all that jazz). Newer, cheaper chemistries that are becoming more popular like LFP...
