  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    What did you reserve?

Not to discourage any reservations, but my understanding is that you have a couple years to change it, ie between Terra/traveler, harvester/bev, so if you’re only planning to buy one you only need one reservation.

    Walkabout Mode (Safety Feature)

Software is like great art, it’s never finished :ROFLMAO: But seriously, it is nice that even if a feature is not initially available it can be added later.

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

    Showing my age ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Internet,_nobody_knows_you%27re_a_dog

    Battery Type

Yeah, I’m looking forward to having a cold fusion generator in my garage with room temperature superconducting wires all setup when solid state batteries become cheap and available. 🙃

    Double charge ports

Audi e-tron and Porsche taycan (and maybe macan ev) have this feature, though I think both have a fast charger only on one side, while l2 can be done on either. Handy for some situations, but adds cost and complexity.

The Cabrito - Hybrid Electric Safari Vehicle

Must be seeing some pretty scary quail on those safaris 🙃

How do you plan to kit out your interior?

There are quite a few now that have NACS options. Check out “state of charge” YouTube channel for more info than you ever thought you’d want on the subject :)

    Traveler without rear tire carrier

Obviously we need indestructible tires, so we don’t need a spare - Jamie, can we get in on this tech? :ROFLMAO:

Just for fun…Have you named your Scout already?

I’d love to see a Scout commercial with a Traveler driving off road through a western landscape with Alan Tudyk at the wheel, Gina Torres riding shotgun and Nathan Fillion poking his head up through the open cabana top.

Should There Be an EV "Tax Penalty"?

I expect that people have different perceptions of how gas tax is used and to what extent road costs are covered by gas tax. Since it varies a lot in different places that’s understandable. I doubt there’s many places where roads maintenance is totally covered by gas taxes, but many folks may...

Is There Any Comparison Data to Other Brands on GVW, Body Dimensions, Off-Road Angles

I think one time we fit eight people in the car: three in the front and five in the back. It was college, we were skinnier, and it was before seatbelt laws :)

Is There Any Comparison Data to Other Brands on GVW, Body Dimensions, Off-Road Angles

I just checked, the 60s era sedans I grew up with are about the same width, and were longer than the traveler (without the spare).

Is There Any Comparison Data to Other Brands on GVW, Body Dimensions, Off-Road Angles

I think the R1t and R1s are “with mirrors folded” while f150 is “without mirrors “, dunno if that really makes a difference.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I love the look of the R2 and the R3, but I want real door handles, physical buttons and repairability! That’s why I’m more interested in Scout.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

    A Trader Joe’s, an R2 and a Shakespeare festival, that’s a trifecta! :)

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

Yup, that’s a handy feature. One thing I wonder about though, is if there might be some sort of extra cover for the charging port. So for example, if you’ve got stuff plugged into those outlets for an extended period of time and it’s raining or snowing, which means the charge port door is...

Is There Any Comparison Data to Other Brands on GVW, Body Dimensions, Off-Road Angles

I think the r1s is actually a bit larger than the traveler, mostly due to length. The body of the traveler is about 10” shorter than r1s, half an inch less height, and possibly even a bit narrower, depending on how much folded mirrors account for the stated width of the R1. The reason that the...

Cost and Ease to Repair/Maintain the Traveler and Terra

I totally get that. My days of crawling under a vehicle are long past. But the nice thing about Scouts approach is that even if you don’t have a scout service center nearby, you can take it to your favorite mechanic and they can get all the info and parts that they need to fix it.
