  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Two Door with Roll Bar and Removable Tops

IF you're considering the idea of a two-door, I like it. It would be lighter, turn sharper, be more nimble and would be easier to tow. However, if the backseat becomes cramped and uncomfortable for adults, it would lose it's charm. I'm assuming it would have a smaller battery, but depending...

Future Model Expansion Might Include a 2-Door Short Wheelbase Model

I like the idea of a two-door. It would be lighter, turn sharper, be more nimble and would be easier to tow. However, if the backseat becomes cramped and uncomfortable for adults, it would lose it's charm. I'm assuming it would have a smaller battery, but depending on the output of the...

    Square fenders instead of rounded

Please no fender flares. Design it so that decent width tires fit inside the body. They are required (IMO) on the newer Broncos because any tire that would be respectable on the trail hangs outside the body. Looking at the prototypes, I don't see a need, and adding them would clutter the...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

Without an engine in the front, can you allow for a much tighter turning radius? Some "white knuckler" type switch backs require a multi point maneuver even in the old Scout II. Since the wheelbase is longer on the new Scout, it would be great if its turning radius was that of a two-door Jeep...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

I hate the manual windows, AM radio, rattles and squeaks, lack of technology, one-zone heating, lack of rear window wiper..... WAIT A MINUTE! I just described my 1980 Diesel Scout II!

US Dealer Slaps $20,000 Markup On VW ID. Buzz

I bought a car in 2006. I did my research and knew exactly what I wanted. I walked into three dealerships and told them each the same story. "I am not buying a car on this visit." "Here is what I want." "I will be going to three dealerships." "I will buy the car for cash in the next 48...

    Locking Differentials Question

Makes sense that they would be manually and individually engaged. I don't rock crawl, but I do go up steep and windy trails. Most of the time it's loose rock less than 12" in size mixed with gravel. But sometimes it solid rock like pavement. I'll just have to get smart about when to engage...

    Locking Differentials Question

How do you think the locking differentials will work? Will we turn them off and on along the trail as needed? I know the big boys use them, but my 1980 Scout II only has limited slip front and back. So I have no understanding how we'll need to manage the full locking feature. Seems like they...

    1976 Scout Traveler SD-33 Diesel

Can I ask who's doing your rebuild of the 33? A couple of days ago I saw a Traveler with a soft top. It was very cool looking! Nice rig. Thanks for sharing.

    October 2024 Production Center Update

Ha ha ha! Don't worry, I didn't take it wrong. There's all levels of us newbies on here and your help is always welcome. But I have moved from a "Lime Green Newbie" to a "Forest Green Newbie!" *grin*

    October 2024 Production Center Update

Wow! $50,000? Surely you're making a joke? I'm pretty sure I can make any dent go away for less than that. Maybe I'm in the wrong business! *grin*

    October 2024 Production Center Update

Yeah,. That's why I said on my Harvester. I know that electric motors don't have pistons. I was born at night, but not last night. *grin*

    Approximate Charge Time

So I (probably with many others) posted that it would be cool if the Traveler was large enough that it could power the Scout. Very much like a modern locomotive. Then 90% of the time you could use the Scout as an EV but on special occasions (long trips, power outages, etc.) you could use the...

    Approximate Charge Time

Yes, that describes our road trips too. I've started studying the charging app maps. I see that there are many more large Supercharger stations than I ever noticed. I don't understand all of the plug types and nuances of picking a station and charging, but I have a few years to learn. Yes...

Yes, and free donuts makes us appreciate the Scout's carrying capacity!

    Approximate Charge Time

Yeah. See that's the thing I need to keep in mind. I think of getting a full tank of diesel. But it would not bother me to stop every couple of hours for 15 minutes if that was a thing. Good to get out and stretch. I just don't want to sit for 30 minutes every three hours or so.

    October 2024 Production Center Update

I suppose there is a careful balance between unique and convenient. Frankly, I like that the Scout is unique. As far as how they are serviced, I really don't care where (or by whom) they are serviced. An oil and filter change on my Traveler at a local dealership would be preferable over going...
