  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I’m sure there’s a way to set it up. As one random example, they could provide an after-market or special “solar option” that includes a a J1772 or NACS plug in the interior of the Traveler that has an interlock with the J1772 plug on the exterior of the vehicle. That would be a lot of extra...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I have a rack that’s just below the roofline on the Lighting so I can mount the panels on the rack and it doesn’t create any additional drag. I’ve seen the tonneau covers, but they’re very expensive. Most of the tonneau covers I’ve seen have been around 600 Watts, and that’s about what I can do...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

On a truck none of that is a concern since everything can be in the bed and one can purchase relatively water-resistant power stations and chargers. If I were doing this with an SUV, I’d run the DC lines through one of the many rubber-sealed entry points like at the (equivalent of) firewall...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Sort of. Note that one of the videos shows what it’s actually doing: charging an accessory power station, which is then used to charge the vehicle. The same as what I do. Just 3 or 4 panels cannot generate enough voltage to charge a 400 or 800 volt battery.

Hoping for a simple option - will pay extra!

Also, it's not all about the driver's safety, but also the safety of others around the driver. Yes, it's great to be able to turn off the warnings when I'm backing up at the ranch. But if I'm backing up in a parking lot, I want to be warned if a kid or a dog has run out behind me and none of my...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

That's basically what I do, without the fancy rack and extra wind resistance.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Storage of a battery at 100% is not great. Maybe. But that's storage for months, not hours or days, and at very high temperatures. That said, an EV battery will never reach 100%. Every modern EV battery manufacturer programs its battery management modules to keep the battery below 100% charge...

GFC / Rivian Build Series Part 1

I've found in our area that there's a sweet spot on fire/forest service roads: If they're relatively flat and don't require a lot of speed changes, going 25-30 mph can give me upwards of 8+ miles/kWh. But if they're hilly, I can quickly drop to 2-3 miles/kWh. Hauling 7-8k pounds up and down...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Anything above 2.5 mi/kWh for the EPA average is a pipe dream. Drag is, by far, the most important factor, and you can't make these bricks any slicker. EV Truck Miles per kWh (epa range divided by battery size, ignoring charge efficiency): Ford F-150 Lightning: Approximately 2.44 mi/kWh (based...

    Scouts with Handicapped Adaptability

I like air conceptually for all-around driving--it can make for a much nicer ride. But the only time I've ever added air to a vehicle is to enable adjustable suspension for when I'm towing. I had some bad experiences as a teen driving vehicles that were badly overloaded in the rear such that the...

And just because air is an option doesn't mean 1) it has to be purchased by everyone; 2) it has to be misused by those who purchase it. An easy way to fix the "driving around all the time with the wrong suspension height" is to set the vehicle up so the default height is correct and a driver has...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Yes. This is exactly the difference between an EREV and a plugin hybrid. The range extender is not designed to drive the vehicle on its own. If it were, the Harvester would have been called a plugin hybrid. As an EREV, the engine will usually not be able to produce as much (and almost never...

    Scouts with Handicapped Adaptability

The trick is that Scout needs only do a little bit to collaborate with the experts. It's not about doing all the upfitting themselves. The things Scout would "have" to do to make their vehicle accessible-ready are minimal and really are just best-practices in universal design. And they would...

    Scouts with Handicapped Adaptability

One great solution for Scout to use to address the height issue is to follow Rivian’s lead and go to airbag suspension so the height of the vehicle is adjustable. Or offer such a package, anyway, for those who want it.

Thanks! I support this fully! I don’t have a personal need at the moment, but I love to see more inclusive companies and I know I’m only one unfortunate incident away from having a need.

    Tire carrier size

If done right, the tire carrier will have an internal hump with a diameter such that any wheel that’s large enough to fit over the brake calipers will fit over the carrier hump.

    Gear ratios

I suspect the math does check out, for the most part, other than his outdated (and average) information about EVs. I'm also not a fan of his assumptions that lead him to convert from RPM to speed in the graph. Engine RPMs are far more important than speed for torque considerations. Speed isn't...

    Gear ratios

I might be wrong about my statement above. I had assumed it was grounded torque, but ... While digging into the GMC Hummer EV's claim of 11.5k ft-lb of torque, I found this quote from Rivian: "Richard Farquhar: That’s correct – we have four identical motors, left and right, front and rear...
