  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    R2 Launch Watch

Thing is even if I could get past reliability concerns, the rest of the car is a button free minimalist screen-only ethos I'm just not interested in. By the way being anti-this is one of the core values of Scout and one of the reasons why I plopped down a reservation on debut day.

    R2 Launch Watch

Having posted on car forums for over 20 years, I'm aware about the bias online but I don't see any bot conspiracy here. It's nothing I'm angry about either, it's simply the growing pains of a 100% new car from a still new company. As for sales figures I'm aware of the stats, just making an...

    R2 Launch Watch

I finally got to sit in and check out an R2 this weekend at the Rivian Palo Alto store! I've been sitting on this reservation since April of 2024 Yup, I'm canceling. On one hand it's exactly what they showed and exactly what I was expecting, but but it's very different actually sitting and...

Those original reservations were fully refundable. In addition there was a referral incentive that resulted in over 100 people being promised free cars. No telling how many of those original folks cancelled or how many people owed a free car are still on the list given Rich Rebuilds lost his...

Speaking of funky cars.. https://electrek.co/2026/10/11/the-legendary-citroen-2cv-is-back-as-a-e15k-electric-concept-for-2028/ Cars for the mass market have become pretty boring and uninspired so from that perspective, I love this. Unless you have no sense of humor, hard to not be at least a...

ID Tiguan is out today. Check out the interior. The people have spoken and Andy Mindt listened. Fewer plastic parts, take the savings and invest in higher quality and differentiated materials, eliminate piano black plastic, real buttons, remove gimmicky design elements, add VW DNA. Also yes...

    R2 Launch Watch

I'm down for fun updates and I'm definitely down for a more customizable gauge setup. The ID Tiguan (aka major overhaul of ID4) debuts tomorrow and one of the things they previewed today are [digital] gauges straight out of a MK4 Golf/Jetta and B5 Passat. It will of course also have a regular...

Road Trip: Harvester vs EV vs Gas Hog

Last week I did a 344mi trip which cost me $94.20 in premium fuel here in the SF Bay Area. That would be in the $20 range for an EV. Oof.

    Warranty Considerations

To be clear I was referring to the logic of R1TVT's comment. To your point, Scout does stand on it's own and the products are unique to Scout, but it absolutely has VW DNA given the use of shared resources like RV Tech, shared suppliers, and virtually all of leadership has come from VW Group...

Yup with basically no camo minus some fascia stickers/etc. Overall not very exciting to look at but I am impressed with how low to the ground they got it, likely from a design that doesn't have the drivers sitting on top of a big battery pack but instead stacking them in the center and behind...

Looks like I won't be converting my 2.5 year R2 reservation to an order as the Toyota bZ Woodland has now risen to top of the ID.4 replacement list when the lease comes up in February. Test drove one at the dealer and this thing is a very competent swiss army knife akin to an electric Subaru...

    Warranty Considerations

I look at the cost as part warranty and part marketing expense. It's a way to incentivize customers to take a leap of faith and buy an unproven vehicle from an unproven company without risking unforeseen expenses due to failures down the road.

    Warranty Considerations

As a lifetime VW owner I can tell you having VW's backing for a first model year anything isn't exactly comforting.

    Warranty Considerations

That's interesting and makes sense, but at the end of the day they still have to compete against the likes of Rivian/etc. so hopefully they can compete on that front as well.

    Warranty Considerations

Everyone buying Scouts for the first couple of years is taking a huge risk not knowing how these cars will hold up over time, a beefy warranty is the only way to ease those concerns. Scout needs to at least match Rivian's warranty full stop. Anything less says the calculus on durability is...

    Warranty Considerations

FWIW here is the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq9 warranty: EV System & Battery: 10 years or 100,000 miles (covers the high-voltage battery, electric motor, power control unit, and on-board charger, including capacity loss below 70%). Basic/New Vehicle Limited Warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles...
