  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Warranty Considerations

I did post somewhere else that the reality is that it wouldn’t cost Scout anything (or much) to have a 150k mile warranty on their battery/drivetrain for the BEV. I still think that’s true. But I wouldn’t want to pay for that in extra cost of the vehicle at purchase.

    Warranty Considerations

A 3/36k and a (currently required minimum) 8/100k warranty is enough for me. I don’t need the price of the vehicle to increase just to expand the warranty. If someone wants to waste their money on a longer warranty, they’re welcome to do that, but a standard warranty is more than sufficient for...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

One thing we have noticed is that we’re both car people and we have different desires/needs over time. So what might have been the perfect vehicle at one point in our lives often doesn’t last very long. At one time, a minivan was perfect for road trips with a baby and toddler. But then later...

    Warranty Considerations

The Rivian R2 has a 4/50k comprehensive and 8/120k battery/drivetrain warranty. The R1 with the larger battery has 8/150k battery/drivetrain warranty. (Down from 8/175k for the older generation.)

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Even if Scout somehow manages to convert all of the reservations to orders and get 10x as many orders as they have reservations, and are able to ramp up production in record time, you are still very likely to be the first one on the block to have one. The best-selling vehicle on the market in...

    Warranty Considerations

Exactly this. We’ve been investing all the money that we would have spent on extended warranty, “protection plans,” gap insurance, and etc any time they were offered for about 30 years. We started doing this very early in our careers. Those investments bought our Mustang Mach-E, our F-150...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

It’s not terrible. It’s mostly that everything else in the vehicle is so quiet that the fan noise becomes the dominant sound. I haven’t driven with an audiobook or music playing, so I don’t know how much it fades away when some other sound is dominant.

    Rivian R2 Experiences

Apologies. I meant to grab a photo yesterday and then totally forgot. Next time I pull it out with the R2 I’ll get a better photo of the side view. Here it is with the Lightning:

    Rivian R2 Experiences

Completed the tow test. That’s in comment #3. Basically, we will be using the Silverado to take the tent trailer on longer trips, but shorter trips will be fine with the Rivian. The R2 does tow just fine as far as handling. Its adaptive cruise control is disabled when a trailer is connected...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

I am also annoyed at it. Some people on the Rivian forums seem to think it’ll be updated in the future, but we shall see.

The first hybrid / EREV ?

    An EREV is a hybrid.

    Rivian R2 Experiences

The play/pause/etc work fine. But if we want to switch books or change from an audiobook to a podcast on the phone (we don’t use Audible), someone has to physically manipulate the phone rather than being able to use the steering wheel controls. This means eyes off road unless there’s a...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

Some impressions after driving the R2 for just a short time. I like the amount of information provided. I’m a data geek, so giving me a way to see what I want to see is great. It’s also optional so if people don’t want to see these things, they can choose a different screen or setup. This is...

    Traveler 240 outlet

I’m a fan of the 240 V outlets on our Silverado and previously on the Lightning, but its utility is greatly reduced if it’s inside the vehicle instead of external. If the charge port with the other receptacles can handle the size of a NEMA L6-30R, that would be ideal.

    Rivian R2 Experiences

I just got back from the towing test. I did exactly the same route. The winds were stronger both as tailwind (cross) and as headwind (cross). Temperatures were very similar. I started with 100% state of charge. The average speed was 51 mph. When I started the drive, the R2 expected 88 miles...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

Today I took the R2 on a calibration drive to understand how its range is impacted by our typical trips and also to give myself a control for a test towing the popup trailer. It was just me in the vehicle and the exterior temperature ranged from about 75 degrees to 85 degrees F. There was a...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

We ended up converting our Rivian R2 reservation to a purchase. Because I wanted the tow package, we did the math and the Performance package available as the Launch version was the best price given all the considerations such as AWD. So we ordered a Launch Green R2 a month or two ago. The R2...

Road tripping in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning; Silverado)?

We took the Silverado and the popup trailer camping this weekend. It was a short trip (about 50 miles one-way), so no concerns about range or anything like that. The truck severely underestimated the range as soon as the trailer was attached. We started at 72% because there was no need to charge...

    R2 Launch Watch

I saw my first R2 outside of test drives when we picked it up today. My partner recently learned she would not be able to retire early for various reasons, so as a consolation, she found a new job within the organization and bought the R2 that we had reserved during the original reveal back in...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

I don’t understand this. We have three Level 2 EVSEs on our solar-powered home. One is an 80A, 19.2 kW charger. We prioritize charging the Mustang first; it uses solar to charge. Then we use any excess solar to charge the truck. It’s been very cloudy with monsoons the past several weeks...
