  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Lithium Battery Firewall/extinguisher?

I think the fear of fires in EVs is overwrought. Statistically a gas vehicle is much more dangerous than an EV when it comes to fires. It's still news when an EV catches fire for three reasons: 1) it's rare; 2) it takes a long time for the fire to go out; EVs are scary to some people for some...

    240V Outlet on Traveller

I agree. Please put it outside of the vehicle rather than on the interior. It would be a shame to have a 240 volt receptacle on the interior as it would limit the vehicle's usefulness during storm-caused blackouts.

Charge port at front, passenger side

Please don't fall for the hype about the rear driver side being the best place for the charge port. It's far more useful to have it at the front passenger side. It still makes it easy to use the NACS chargers with their super short cables. With it being in the front passenger, only one NACS...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

I have had similar experiences--I always check the charge before I go to sleep and if it's high enough that I'm comfortable with my next-day range, I'll unplug and move the car. I tend to avoid hotels with valet parking, so I've only had one experience with valet parking/charging. I got a full...

Please put extender in back and give biggest frunk possible!

About once a month I have to run out to a job site that's off-grid. I pile all my tools into the frunk and bed, toss my camping fridge into the bed plug it in, charge to 100% overnight, load the tractor onto the trailer, hook up the trailer, and drive the 50 miles to the job site. When I arrive...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

That's basically what they are set up as. The difference is that at home it's you, as the owner, who controls access. While on the road, just like most things, it's first-come, first-served. The real problem comes when some people---the entitled "diamond member" above---think they're more...

Please put extender in back and give biggest frunk possible!

I love the frunk of our Lightning. I fill it with all my tools, charging gear, recovery gear, air compressor, etc. I put all the stuff we don't want to leave in the bed of the truck and definitely don't want in the cabin in case of an accident. We also put our suit cases in it when on road...

    Accessibility?

Many manufacturers have Upfitter Guides that almost never have enough detail to make these fixes in a cost-effective way. Often upfitters have to borrow a vehicle from someone who is 1) willing to be without their vehicle for a lot longer than is reasonable; 2) willing to pay to be a test...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

I think we're agreeing with each other. Yes, smaller vehicles are generally better off-road. That's my reason for posting in this thread. The Terra is specced to have a 149 inch wheelbase, which is larger than the Lightning, though the Terra is supposed to be shorter overall than the Lightning...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

The weight distribution is far more equal in an EV pickup than a gas pickup. This isn't an issue.

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

First, the question was what do we love or hate about other off-road vehicles. I'm not going to limit my answer to some mythical marketing "truth" of what everyone else likes. Why even bother asking the question if the only allowable answers are, "we love what's for sale at all the other...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

Yeah. The Maverick size is good, but I don't like the configuration. I would replace the second row of the cabin with bed.

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

Three reasons: First and most important, we got the Lightning Lariat for $30k less than an equivalently-equipped R1T and our trade-in was valued at $5k more by the Ford dealer. Second, we were literally in the process of buying the R1T (they still have $1000 of my money) when I got a text from...

    Where are EV chargers needed

We have a Lightning ER (131 kWh usable) and a Mustang Mach-E (91 kWh usable). At one point we had both on L1. It takes time to get the Lightning to 100%, no doubt. But even 10 hours of charging at 1.1 kW into the battery was enough for us to gain SoC over the week of normal driving.

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

The large size is the worst part of modern SUVs and trucks. I'd be willing to take a huge loss on our Lightning if there were a 1989 Toyota pickup-sized or modern Maverick-sized EV truck available for purchase today. I do tow fairly often, but most of my driving is hauling stuff and the bed of...

    Living with EV

We have a regular departure time set on our cars so that the vehicle is toasty when it's time to go to the gym at 0-dark:00. Unlike with a gas vehicle, it's perfectly safe to do this with the vehicle in an attached garage.

    Where are EV chargers needed

There's a myth that L2 is the only way to charge at home. We lived with L1 charging for about 18-20 months, through two winters. It's not perfect, but we never had to go find supplemental charging. L1 worked, we just had to plan for road trips a little bit further ahead. This 20 months included...

    Where are EV chargers needed

We almost always go for a walk while charging. It helps with the many thousand-mile+ road trips we do. Having charging stations where the walks are more pleasant than parking lot / Walmart would certainly be welcome.

    Where are EV chargers needed

I almost posted that map yesterday, but I don't have time to muck with the API to show a better visualization. The data can be downloaded... The right thing to do for locations of DCFC chargers is: Fill in the gaps along the interstate highway system. A 50 mile spacing is about right. Fill in...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

Take a look at "a better route planner" for your planned route (And PlugShare). Very few charging stations advertise the way we're used to seeing gas stations advertise with giant, bright signs. The stations are also often simply hidden from view.
