  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Scout as an EV

    Analog Scout?

Actually, given how rapidly EVs depreciate - lightly used EVs offer excellent value. You can get a sub 30,000 mile AWD Mach-E Premium for less than 30k. That's a lot of car for that price - and no new ICE car upto 40k will match it in features and acceleration.

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

The Hummer EV has a 70mph highway electricity consumption of 1.5miles/kWh. So, that's a good base number to have. Energy consumption increases as the square of the speed - so a realistic 80mph consumption is 1mi/kWh. This means as long as the range extender can supply more than 80kW (107.3hp)...

    Analog Scout?

I am a scientist and drive an EV - and let me tell you @jay.kolkman I get you. Too much of modern cars are locked down - and the more you dig deep into it it's a mess. There are multiple ECUs talking to 100s of sensors. And except for Tesla, these are all coming from an alphabet soup of vendors...

    12v battery access/cabin access

I do not know what architecture Scout will be using, but if it's based off on Rivian, then there won't be any 12V lead-acid battery. Everything runs at 48V, from a lithium-battery that is a sub-component of the main battery.

    Long range Fuel Tanks

As far as I understand the spare tire doesn't have any batteries between it and the chassis. So if it's gone, the fuel tank won't be hanging super low.

    Long range Fuel Tanks

Many trucks, especially those that carry their spare under the chassis have an option for deleting the spare and putting in a long range fuel tank with an extra 40 something gallons of fuel. This is a company, that for example specializes in this - Long Range America. Won't be possible on this...

    Approximate Charge Time

From what I understand, the next big leap in battery capacity will be from solid state batteries. While they may seem like perpetually 5 years away, QuantumScape and VW have already started pilot production, and given that Scout is a VW company it may happen sooner than we realize.

    Approximate Charge Time

The Silverado's EPA rating is 2 miles/kWh - and I expect Scout Terra to be the same. The lower limit can be got from the Humme EV which is 1.5

    Camper Shell

It would be a big miss if they don't. Heat pumps are becoming the default equipment in EVs currently.

    Ditch the Wheel Arch Plastic

Or at least have a trim without plastic

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

This is pretty much it. The biggest advantage of a range extender in my opinion, as compared to parallel PHEVs is that your driving experience remains unchanged always. In a PHEV, the pure EV motors is often weak and underpowered and has to go through the whole geartrain rather than directly...

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

Actually we can do some calculations. My Mach-E at 80mph in cold, highway driving gives 1.5-2 miles/kWh. That means for one hour of 80mph driving - it consumes 40-50 kWh - thus implying an averaged power draw of 50kW from the battery. This is approximately 70hp, so a 100hp motor running...

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

150 miles battery only range? Was it mentioned somewhere? As far as I understood, these specs are still in active development

In my day job I am a materials scientist at a national lab- so cool to meet another materials scientist.

    Post Reveal Suggestions

Yeah. Fixed is far better from a reliability standpoint. I was thinking retractable as it won’t mess with the design of the vehicle.

    Post Reveal Suggestions

Another thing I was thinking while looking at the reveal video - the rock rails on the Terra can very easily be repurposed for retractable running boards. These are going to be tall vehicles so steps would help a lot.

    Post Reveal Suggestions

I shouldn’t have made a separate thread on camper shells yesterday. So here is my suggestion @Jamie@ScoutMotors : The Terra should have factory camper shell options - will make it a great over landing and multipurpose rig that way.

    Camper Shell

I think Scout envisions their trucks and SUVs as overland vehicles. This is evident from their features and range. So a camper shell eliminating the need for propane heating would be a game changer for over landing or overnight camping.
