  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

EVs on the Trail- Firsthand Experience

On that "stone knives and bearskins" level, it's pretty easy to do that kind of conversion and the battery choices are sooooo much better than Wilde had back then. If you pull the trigger on the project, keep us posted.

Get me the VIN and I'll give you a little historical perspective on it.

    75 terra

Also, it's a Gold Star! Cleverly called "Pickup Rallye" in the '76 Gold Star book. Custom trim level interior, AC... top-o-the-line in every way. On so many levels, you have a Scout to envy!

    1961 Scout 80

You have a first year Scout! If you don't mind sharing, what is the chassis number? With that I can give you an pretty good idea when it was built. Of course if you got the Line Setting Ticket, you will know that already. Still, I like to let people with '61 Scouts know that they are "plank...

    75 terra

I'm sure you meant to say '76 Terra, as the Terra first appeared for the '76 model year. If it's early production '76, it may have been built in '75. Tylically, production for the upcoming year started at theend of July or the first of August for the following model year. As it happened...

Comment by 'ScoutScribe' in item 'Super Scout / Hardtop'

Well, all you can really say for sure is that the VIN and VIN tag came from an SSII. I verified it in the Service FIche as well... though the LST was plenty of proof. Body swaps on Scouts are very common due to the rust issues. Or, maybe it was wrecked as you suggested. In either case, back in...

And here I am! The easiest thing is if you can post or PM the LST. I could also verify from the VIN. For a general lesson, here are a couple of other means to determine an SSII, starting with the location of the VIN plate... which should be on the passenger footwell mounted upside down. Also...

EVs on the Trail- Firsthand Experience

In my distant past, I had some experience with an EV on the trail and maybe it can offere a little perspective. It was 1999 and I was the US Correspondent for a British magazine. I was testing a 1971 Series IIA Land Rover converted into an EV by Wilde Evolutions, then of Port Townsend...

03.14 - This day in Scout history...

The Scout wouldn't have existed but for him. Not so much because he was responsible for every curve of the body or every nut and bolt... it was a team effort after all. It was sheer, dogged determination to see what he thought was a great idea turned into reality. He had been given a very...

    Welcome and Introductions!

You have two very rare Scouts and this model is the only true convertible International Harvester produced. As connected as I am to Scouts, you'd think I would have heard of a couple with TWO Sportop Convertibles

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I especially liked Keogh's line, “Certainly you would not want the Scout VIII to be like the Scout II.” Had the Scout remained in production to this day, it would have evolved. Even as an old guy whose profession has him often living in the past, I can appreciate the need for a vehicle, a brand...

Scout Motors Selects South Carolina for Production Site

I think the South Carolina location will result in a happy experience for all concerned. People there still have the good old American work ethic and if the company treats them well, employees will be as loyal as the day is long.

    Buttons vs screens

Screens are very distracting for me if they have to be used going down the road. But I'm an old geezer. I can manipulate switches well and can use them without taking my eyes off the road once I have that muscle memory of where they are. I don't think anyone can do that with a touch screen...

    Scout Color Poll #1

None of the above! I vote for a remake of 2027 Red, a CT399 special color used on a '79 CVI special model. I call it "Salsa Red." It's gorgeous!
