  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Chevy Silverado

Yes, it’s not regen vs physical braking that causes motion sickness, it’s one pedal driving. You end up having to be very careful modulating the gas pedal, which is a real pain. You can get the same effect driving a manual in first gear. That’s why I like regen paddles like Kia/Hyundai have...

    Realistic range concerns.

Aptera has developed technology around incorporating solar panels on the body of the car (roof, hood, maybe even sides), light but durable.

    Realistic range concerns.

That’s really helpful to have a concrete example. I expect that currently there are a fair number of places like this that would be impractical for most people to use EVs (esp since it’s even iffy with ICE ?), though remember, all that is really needed to charge is electricity. Level 1 or 2...

    Fusilier down and out......for now

Well, I wouldn’t want to be in Houston now either, or any summer to come, but it seems like power outage would similarly affect ice cars, I mean gas stations won’t work either, right? At least with some EVs (lightning, Kia, Hyundai, rivian) you could power some necessities off them, e.g. go...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

As much as I love the idea of Aptera-like solar panels on a scout, realistically charging an ev that doesn’t look like a spaceship takes a lot more than what you can easily fit on a vehicle. I’ve seen a couple stories of folks who have traveled with portable panels cross country or cross...

    VW is investing in Rivian

Very happy to have competition in “a different price segment”, lots of room in the market for more affordable EVs! (And buttons ?!)

    VW is investing in Rivian

I’ve noticed recently that Brits tend to use “are” instead if “is” for companies, not sure when that started, but maybe it’s starting to influence folks on this side of the pond. Grates on me too.

Top Five Accessories For The New Scout

Yeah, I know what you mean. I want tech that will keep me from getting injured and keep me from injuring anyone else, not necessarily do the driving for me. Of course real level 5 tech so the car can drop me off and go park itself, or let me nap would be nice, but I’m skeptical that that will...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

The thing is, the door release mechanism, or the door handle design has absolutely nothing with the drive system being electric or ice. It’s purely a matter of design choices and fashion. Same goes for touch screens, capacitive buttons, minimalist design, spare tires, one pedal driving...

The Key EV Tech I'm looking for in Scout Vehicles

    >There are no all-electric off road vehicles Maybe I’m naive, but from what I’ve heard rivians are pretty good off road. My impression is that Scout will be more a combination of work-practical and off road, so will still differentiate itself. Rivian seems to be more recreation focused.

The Road to Scout Production - All the latest updates in one place...

Absolutely! The ev industry has been unduly influenced by tesla’s “applish” minimalist, “don’t you worry your pretty little head”, approach. Scouts want to be in the drivers seat and aren’t afraid of info, specs, mods and physical controls. There’s a lot of potential for differentiation...

    Thoughts about an EV off-roader?

I think you’re being very reasonable. It all depends on the vehicle and what it’s built to withstand. An ice car with exhaust 6 inches off the ground shouldn’t drive through water a foot deep, but a vehicle with a snorkel might be able to handle several feet of water. Rivians are built to...

    No regenerative braking!!!!!!!

There is a big difference between coasting and regen. There are losses in energy conversion, getting power into the battery, getting it out of the battery, not to mention limits based on capacity and conditions that all affect regen but not coasting. When you can do it, coasting is always...

    Right-hand side charging access

I’ve seen a lot of talk about installing chargers on light poles (high power already available), having right side charging would be perfect for that. Basically anytime you’re parallel parking, charging port on the right side would be a plus.

    No regenerative braking!!!!!!!

I’ve not heard of any EVs that don’t have regen. Some of them don’t have one pedal driving, with regen happening when you hit the brake pedal, or a few have a specific regen paddle (e.g. Chevy bolt). Typically it would use as much regen as the system can handle before engaging the physical...
