  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

Trailer weight matters to efficiency for stop-and-go and for long climbs. For long stretches above about 35-40 mph, wind resistance matters more.

    Long distance EV towing video

I do not believe they will. There was some hope for a short time when it became clear the fuel tank filler would be moved to the rear of the vehicle, but I believe the hope was dashed by a post on this forum. We won’t be able to replace the Lightning with the Terra (whenever that time comes)...

The other problem is that the maps for DCFCs just show points at a particular scale. That’s ALWAYS misleading. Instead of points on a map, the charger maps should display some standardized range “covered” by the charger. In my case, I’m using 50 miles (80 km) because if you have 100 miles...

    SCOUT TRAVELER FAQ

You know I’m Dark Clouds to your Rosie Sunshine. Ford spent years and supposedly $20B developing the best-selling BEV pickup in the world and then abandoned it when they felt a little political and sales resistance (and saw a massive tax write-off on the table—so, yay all of us, we got to...

    SCOUT TRAVELER FAQ

My partner would be the primary driver of the Traveler and she is concerned that there won’t be a Scout BEV when she’s ready to replace the Mustang. One of the biggest benefits she notices on a weekly basis is not having to go to a gas station and not having to deal with all things ICE. She...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

They would have to pay me at least $250k to even consider a vehicle with a V-anything in it, so I guess that works out for me.

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

We’re letting our “free” Ford BlueCruise—hands-free driving—subscription on the Mustang expire at the end of February. We got the software with the purchase as a non-optional part of the trim. The hardware is there as part of the adaptive cruise control and other safety features. There is no...

    Northern Climate FAQ

This may be of interest here. It’s not at the very low temperatures of our friends in the northern reaches, but it is still a decent dataset for consideration. I spent the morning working on the Lightning’s solar charging system. I started at around 10:45 and stopped at around 12:45. It was a...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Okay, fine. If I recall correctly, @RodorW has a Chevy Bolt EUV. That has a ~350 Volt, 185 Ah battery. To charge a battery, you need to generate a higher voltage than the voltage across the battery's positive and negative terminals. It doesn’t matter how many amps the generator can provide...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

You accelerate and brake differently when you’re thinking about hamsters. It’s a very different pattern compared with how you brake and accelerate when you’re thinking about gators.

EV reservation holders, would you consider the Harvester

If Scout cancels the BEV Traveler, we would likely be out. If they delay it, it’ll entirely depend on timing and our savings account, but it could make it more likely that we would buy a Scout. I don’t particularly have much worry about a delay since I have already been expecting a 6-18 month...

And recalls for 16 years from the original purchase date, regardless of if the vehicle was discontinued.

    Northern Climate FAQ

In Norway, there’s a regular winter range test of EVs. The websites are in Norwegian, so you may want to pass them through a translation tool. This year, temperatures were down at -32 ºC (-26 ºF). The coldest they’ve seen in the 11 years they’ve run the test. https://www.naf.no/elbil/elprix...

    Northern Climate FAQ

Yeah, there are a ton of assumptions I made in this, so I wouldn’t internalize those numbers. I will say that for anyone who has range anxiety when thinking about driving a BEV, especially in the very cold, an EREV would probably relieve that anxiety. But there are other real hassles to deal...

Bi-directional Charging / Home Power Backup

I have the Lightning and chose not to purchase all the extra hardware and installation of the “intelligent” backup power option. Instead, I spent $100 on a generator cable and inlet and connect the truck’s 240 Volt plug in the bed to my solar inverter's “Gen” input. If you don’t have a solar...

Using an EV for backup power in case of power outage

Reading a post on the Lightning forum. A Lightning owner’s Kentucky home lost power due to sleet and freezing rain. They used the 240 Volt, 30 Amp power outlet in the bed of the Lightning, along with a generator inlet and interlock to run the house for 3.5 days before the power came back on...

    Northern Climate FAQ

As I mentioned in my earlier post, Scout has a fantastic opportunity to do something innovate with the Harvester. One of the problems with ICEVs is that you cannot safely warm up the engine when the vehicle is in a space that’s connected to a living space. The dangers to human health are too...

    Scout Supply Merchandise Live

The equations are all over t-shirts, etc already—nerds can’t help ourselves expressing our nerdiness. That said, it would be neat to have sew-on or iron-on patches for the Scout backpack or for a Scout “bomber” jacket?
