  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

IMO, the Slate is the nearest thing to a BEV work truck out there. If it had an 7-foot bed, it would be nearly perfect for actual work. And it would still be 34” shorter than the behemoths like the F-150, Terra, Silverado, etc. None of those can be used for real work because they’re all too big...

Is the EREV going to be a flop?

One of the many, many reasons I wouldn’t buy an EREV is that I don’t want to deal with ICE anymore. In every use-case that I have, they’re inferior to electric. I have a diesel tractor that I hate using because of the noise, smell, and cost and inconvenience of fuel. And I have an obnoxious gas...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

When you do that math, don’t forget to include your first and last fill-up at your residential electricity prices for the EV. And if you plan your trip to get free or cheaper L2 charging during your overnight stays, you’ll push that per mile cost even lower. For the full round trip that I just...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

Just passed 30,000 miles on the truck. On the way to that, I was driving from central northern Arizona to the Los Angeles valley via Interstate 40. On the drive out, I was feeling good so didn’t feel the need to stop at the first charging stop in Yucca, AZ. Nor the backup for the first stop in...

This is real and on schedule. Testing in vehicles will take a couple of years. Then it'll take a couple more years to get the production to an acceptable yield capacity. Every realistic solid-state manufacturer has been saying early 2030s for availability in high volumes for about 5 years...

Ford’s future small BEV vs Terra

I own both a Lightning and a Mustang Mach-E. The engineering of these vehicles is fantastic. I think Ford conceded too much ground giving up on the Lightning as a BEV and will be stuck trying to come back from that for a long time. When it's time to replace the Mustang, we'll consider a BEV...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

The Lightning is hitting 30,000 miles this week and the Mustang is hitting 60,000 miles in the next couple of weeks. Scheduled Maintenance: Lightning: Every 12 months or 10,000 mi (16,000 km). Rotate the tires, inspect for tire wear and measure the tread depth. Perform a multi-point...

    Battery used

BYD is a real battery manufacturer who doesn't make scammy claims. Donut is a scam company trying to get investors to throw bad money after good. The sodium battery is unlikely to be put into long-range EVs because of its low energy density, but it will be replacing lithium in stationary...

    Wheelchair complication: 😥

I can't either. But there's a difference between not opposing modifications and having an internal program meant to attract and support upfitters.

PHEVs (which is what the Harvester will be) mostly don't get the fuel economy advertised. https://chargedevs.com/newswire/new-study-plug-in-hybrids-use-three-times-more-fuel-than-automakers-claim-even-when-drivers-do-plug-them-in/

    Wheelchair complication: 😥

Ford and other manufacturers have upfitter and mobility modifier support programs specifically for these kind of modifications. I've asked a couple of times if there's a plan for Scout Motors to have such a program, but haven't heard anything definitive. It would be a shame if Scout doesn't have...

I think this is one of several reasons I could never be an influencer... What's the point of spreading the rumors? Besides a cynical knowledge that it gets clicks and advertisers pay for clicks? Why not create something more interesting?

    Spare Tire, Backpack, or Bald?

There are a few things I see people who have never had a BEV underestimate the convenience or utility of: 1. At-home charging and never needing to go to a gas station 2. The frunk 3. Reduced maintenance 4. ...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

I don’t think so. The hate and pushback I got when I bought one of the first hybrids in the US (2001 Prius purchased in early 2002) was intense. I get almost exactly the same kind of attitude when I drive to the “wrong” parts of the country in my Mustang Mach-E.

Harvester Battery Stage of Charge Question

Given the front surface area, my guess is they’ll be similarly (in)efficient. The relative length difference won’t matter very much. The relative weight won’t make much difference either.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

The double-cab, 5-foot bed makes the Telo worse than the F-150 for hauling cargo. A proper kei truck has at least a 6-foot long bed. The Telo needs to have an option for a single-cab with an 8-foot bed. The midgate nonsense is useless to people who use dirt roads while hauling, and for anyone...

You can fit more volume into a Kei mini truck bed than a modern "real truck" bed.

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

Most of the people in my circles want a small car. It's just a few people who want a bigger car like the Mustang or Lightning.

    Hey Lady Scouts!!

The Fords allow you to set many of these. I think the auto-lock immediately could create a different safety concern. For example, it could end up locking a child in the car after you get out and close the driver's door. Since the default you're talking about is to lock immediately when you get...
