  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Yes but this is one of the fun things about EVs. The massive torque can be used for work and play. Take a giant diesel truck. That thing has massive amounts of torque. But because of the narrow power band of the engine, it is geared very low in order to tow. This means it has terrible...

It's not the weight, it's the number of battery cells and the maximum discharge rate of each cell. Once you hit that rate, the only way to get more power (current/amperage) is to add more cells. Fewer cells means less power (current/amperage), all else being equal.

What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

$175 for the Tesla ones and you can program them yourself. They used to include them with the higher end vehicles (S/X) but even stopped doing that a couple years ago. They claim that people weren't using them and were using their phones instead. Mine was one of the last that came with them...

What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

I think it depends on how often you lose power. The beauty of being able to use your truck as backup power is that you get other use it for productive things when the power is working normally. We lose power once or twice a year for a few hours. I would love to be able to power my house...

What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

With Tesla's, below a certain speed (like 2mph) if you lift your butt off the seat and the seatbelt is unplugged, the car will go into Park. So if you are one of those people that back up a truck to a trailer with the door open and one leg hanging out, it may not go well for you. I was one of...

What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

Having owned Teslas since 2010 (2010 Roadster, 2012 and 2018 Model S, 2022 Model X Plaid) I will gently push back on this. The Roadster had its charge port in the same place as the Lotus Elise's fuel port (just behind the driver's door). The first gen Model S was rear wheel drive so they chose...

Except that it does. I posted this in the other thread but Tesla lost a lawsuit because they advertised the max HP of the motors except that the battery pack could not supply enough current to produce those numbers. Further, when they debuted the v3 Roadster years ago, they needed a 200kWh...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

They have had this as a service in the SF Bay Area for like 10 years (there's one in LA called Fuelster). A small fuel truck would fuel your car while you were at work. Doesn't seem to be any profit in it as the companies seem to come and go regularly. That and they seemed to get shut down...

We already have a thread for this: https://community.scoutmotors.com/threads/accelleration.2665/ As @Chuckles said, it's due to the smaller battery pack, not weight.

I disagree. The TAM for BEVs is too small. You can see it in manufacturers constantly falling short of sales expectations, projects being cancelled, etc. How do you grow the TAM? The 2 biggest hangups people have are cost and range anxiety. Cost is improving as battery costs come down...

Has Scout mentioned anything about battery thermal management?

Thermal management of batteries are indeed table stakes these days. That is why EV batteries last much longer than the batteries in your laptop, phone, weedeater, etc. Any time spent above 40C (104F) causes permanent degradation of Li-Ion batteries. When it comes to efficiency, I don't know...

    Battery Life Cycle

Nice to e-meet you but I am glad you are not the CEO of Scout. I have been driving EVs for 15 years now and SSBs are like fusion energy, always just 2 years away. Go back and read your posts in this thread. I can't even count the number of times you said "should, will, etc." It's all pie in...

    Accelleration

Funny story about another benefit of EVs. A few years back I was in my Tesla Roadster, heading home at around 11:00pm after visiting a friend. Roads were pretty much empty. I was sitting at a stoplight and a guy in a Tesla Model S rolls up next to me. Despite both being middle-aged men, we...

    Accelleration

To answer the OP's question, the difference is due to the smaller battery in the Harvester. Why is this so? Li-ion batteries (all batteries actually) have a maximum safe discharge rate. This means that the total amperage available is a function of the battery chemistry and the number of cells...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

Unfortunately this is a regulation and it cannot be disabled, muted, etc. I can say, however, that they are terribly fragile things. Soon after I bought both of my last 2 EVs, I went over some really rough railroad tracks and wouldn't you know it, they stopped making noise. Along those lines...

    Mechanical locking 4x4 over automatic

You made post after post about how reliable manual locking hubs are and how unreliable and expensive automatic locking hub are. Scout will have neither of those things. Short of ripping the entire wheel hub off the truck, there is nothing to break. But I'm tilting at windmills now. You've...

    Mechanical locking 4x4 over automatic

Ok so for the 3rd time. THE SCOUT WILL NOT HAVE UNLOCKING HUBS. THE HUBS ARE ALWAYS LOCKED. THEREFORE THEY WILL BE MORE RELIABLE THAN YOUR NEIGHBOR'S TRUCK BECAUSE THERE IS LITERALLY NOTHING TO BREAK. THERE IS NO LEVER, NO RELAY, NO SWITCH, NO MODULE. For Pete's sake. Please, just stop.

Official launch is on Monday 8/11. Supposed to be mid-sized, in between Maverick and Ranger. I think if the price and range are in the ballpark it will sell.

    Mechanical locking 4x4 over automatic

So just to follow on to what @TreeKiller and @SpaceEVDriver just said (and what I said a couple pages ago), your statement above is wrong. There is no shift motor in an 2+ motor EV so you will never need to buy one. There is no shift motor because there is no center diff. The hubs are always...

    Interior Colors

One thing to note as you move to an EV/EREV. It is trivial to pre-cool your car from your phone before you get into it, even in a closed garage (since there's no exhaust). So you will get into the habit of pre-conditioning 10 minutes or so before you plan to leave. Presto, no toasted buns...
