  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    What’s your hobby

My grandfather was a tool and die maker. After the War, he left the military industrial complex to take a job with a relatively new company called Mattel. He was responsible leading the teams that built the dies for Barbie and Hot Wheels.

    New route-finding application

One thing I think Scout Motors should do is have a one-on-one charging tutorial session with their customers. They should have a bank of different-brand chargers for users to plug into for 5 minutes so they go through the process of learning how to connect; which apps they need; etc.

    New route-finding application

A friend of mine has developed a new route-finding application for EVs. It’s still pretty new, so is still rough, but might be of interest. I have no financial connection, just a personal one. One of the interesting parts of the interface is that they give a numerical and visual representation...

How would you build your Scout?

The language here—in multiple posts, not just this one—is really uncalled for.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

I don’t know for sure what they were doing… But I can speculate. The low-voltage (12V) battery for the Rivian is under the frunk. So the 12V battery is somewhat inaccessible to jumper cables while the vehicle is charging. If the ICE car had a low battery, they may have been charging the ICE...

Scout Pricing and State Rebate Programs

The best-selling EV pickup, the F-150 Lightning, has sold just under 100k units in the ~3.25 years since the first was delivered in 2022. Sales of Q4 2025 will probably bring that sum to 120-140k total sales. And it is built in a factory that was already configured to build F-150s. I think that...

Desert US Southwest here. Already volunteered, never heard back. ;)

    Make steering wheel sportier

The Lightning is ready to go for driving almost instantly; that’s not the use-case. I set the auto-shut off to inactive on my truck. When I’m working the ranch, I sometimes need non-default configurations to stay where I set them for the work session. I mean: which cameras are on, mirror...

    Make steering wheel sportier

I mean, that’s what the Start/Stop button is. Right there in easy reach.

    Make steering wheel sportier

It’s not “needed” in EVs for very simplistic uses of EVs, but I use my truck for working on the ranch and having to deal with the machine shutting itself off automatically would make it so much of a pain that it wouldn’t be worth owning such a truck. A simple compromise would be keep the...

    Make steering wheel sportier

We’ve had this disagreement many times. Your use-case isn’t the only one. I won’t buy a utility/sport vehicle without a physical Start/Stop button.

Speculation - will Scout use the new EV battery announced by VW?

And this is the other definition of preconditioning, which is adjusting the battery temperature to be best for the particular use coming up, usually driving in cold or preparing to charge. Battery Preconditioning: Adjusting battery temperature to best meet short-term future needs. Usually...

    Off-topic stuff…

It could, yes. But if your tire guy says it’s not necessary to replace them now, then I would trust them. If you wanted random internet people to give you opinions that are worth as much as you’re paying for them, you could post photos of the insides of the tires. I’ve seen people destroy...

    Off-topic stuff…

I had typed out an “accusation as question” about hard cornering in my first response to this and then thought better of it. Hard cornering is a common cause of uneven internal wear on one or two tires.

Speculation - will Scout use the new EV battery announced by VW?

Preconditioning has two meanings, sadly. The one @Cranky Canuck is using is the most common one. One thing you can’t do safely with an ICE is start it and leave it running in the garage to warm up the cabin. With many EVs, you can set a precondition time so its cabin is always at the...

Question about Pedal Feel and Driving Characteristics

Very much this. Everyone should note that there are no modern EVs without regen. The biggest question is how is that regen applied and how aggressively. I personally find—after having spent most of my life driving manual transmission vehicles—that using 1PD is more consistent with how I...

Speculation - will Scout use the new EV battery announced by VW?

Great points. Another one: Almost every ICE in the very cold northern regions of the Americas is a hybrid. Those 120v plugs hanging out of the front so people can plug in to keep the 12V battery and engine block heaters running are a necessity to keep the vehicles from freezing and failing...

    Off-topic stuff…

Did they say which tire? It’s odd that it’s only one tire. This usually indicates an issue with the camber on the tire that’s wearing more or a possibly a worn part in the suspension. But there could be other reasons. It’s not the tires that are the issue, it is something else. Whatever the...

Speculation - will Scout use the new EV battery announced by VW?

There’s about zero chance Sodium will even be ready for use by the time Scout is building its vehicles. It’s basically in the same space as other solid-state battery technologies. The cells work in the lab, but industrial production methods have not yet been figured out to the extent necessary...

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

I let my spawn do their own. They were grumpy about it when they didn’t win, but years later they thanked me for not being the parent who built their car for them. Tips: Weight and its distribution matters most. The car should be as heavy as allowed. But you should control where the weight is...
