  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

IMO, Yes. But. I haven't found a great AS in the size I want and load range required. For the Lightning, 116S is the lowest load index I would put on the truck. There aren't a lot of great options outside of ATs. And as you go to a higher load index, the tires get a lot heavier. I would like an...

ICE To EV. 2019 Tundra to 2023 F150 Lightning Lariat.

We get power outages about every quarter or so. Sometimes for a few minutes, but often for several hours. With the permanent-install whole-home battery backup, we don’t even know there’s something wrong until our system emails us. I don’t have a use for the bidirectional charging system because...

Personally, I find too much screen is dangerous for driving at night. It fatigues the eyes, creates glare, and reduces visibility outside of the cabin. I want less screen.

To enable bidirectional charging, they’ll also need to get the full Home Integration System installed by SunRun (or maybe someone else by now?). It’ll add about $5k to $10k to the cost. This is part of the issue with bidirectional chargers of today. There’s a lot of extra hardware required to...

Yes. At lower speeds, rolling resistance and angular momentum of the wheels/tires have a greater impact on efficiency. This is for multiple reasons: A) because the tires have time to flex more so internal friction is higher and more energy is expended flexing the tires; B) Because the road...

ICE To EV. 2019 Tundra to 2023 F150 Lightning Lariat.

I once thought I would install a bidirectional charger and the associated hardware. I eventually realized it’s just not worth the cost or hassle for my use-case. If you really need 40A or more, then it might make sense, but if you can run your system on 30A, 240V, then the Lightning will easily...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Something similar happened to me in 2023. We were coming home from a multi-state camping trip, towing the travel trailer with the Tacoma. It was a holiday weekend. With about a quarter tank of gas left (40-50 miles of range), we pulled off the highway to stop at a gas station. It was super...

I believe that’s accurate to the level possible at this time. When in low-speed (<40 mph) traffic that’s relatively flat, you could probably bump that up to >3 miles/kWh. I get closer to 4 in the Lightning for around-town driving, and in some specialized contexts, I can get >8 miles/kWh round...

Yeah. Chinese manufacturers were the leading suppliers of automobiles sold in Mexico in 2025. BYD and other Chinese automakers are also taking South America’s automotive industry with little resistance.

A lot of people have been trying to tell US auto manufacturers and lawmakers this truth for more than a decade, but they’ve all been dismissed as “woke.”

I didn’t respond to this when you first posted because I wasn’t sure what the implications might be. I’m still not fully sure, but didn’t want to lose this thread because this is a fascinating approach. My first concern is thermal management. How do you manage the thermal conditions of a bunch...

I suspect we'll have to prepare ourselves for a wait, however short, for a launch edition to gather a pile of orders before they release the other trims.

    Most common bolt size

But if you do want a specific wrench or socket size, it's going to be 1/2", 9/16", or 5/8". I'm not sure which is the most common in the Scout. The best ratchet for those will have a 3/8" drive.

    Most common bolt size

I can’t remember where I saw it, but I was reading someone’s itemized bill for all the parts, others’ labor (paint, sandblasting, etc), and extra tools to restore a 1965 Mustang Convertible. The car, after restoration, was valued at about $50k. The cost to restore, including the donor vehicle...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

I recently ran an estimated total cost of ownership model for some friends who were debating a $55k Subaru Outback or a $116k Rivian R1S. Based on their location, driving habits, cost of energy (gas or electricity), etc., the R1S has a greater than 66% probability it will pay for itself within...
