  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

And 95% of businesses who have invested in AI have found no benefit and have lost money trying to get back to real, creative people. AI doesn't do creative. This will be a waste of money for VW.

    Higher Range

Yeah. At this point, more than 300-350 miles of range is often just to satisfy people's anxiety. There are special use cases that call for more range, but they're in the 1%, not the majority Charge time isn't really a function of the range. It's a decision by the manufacturer. A larger battery...

    Higher Range

We only looked at the 410 mile max pack R1T long enough to see the price and then backed away quickly. We got the Lightning for $30k less than the R1T with similar range, not counting the trade-in that Rivian low-balled. The max pack would have cost us $50k-$60k more. We've taken our two EVs...

    Bigger frunk

I'm certain the Scout frunk is no smaller than the Lightning frunk. We can fit luggage for two for two weeks in the Lightning frunk with space for our emergency gear, an induction camp stove, and a camping table. Filling in the nooks and crannies with tools completes the space.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

With 4 EVs, I would be running at least one L2 and two or three L1s. Nearly every EV comes with a portable L1, and if not they're relatively cheap to buy--everyone should have one in their car while traveling. If you can find the separate circuits in your parking area, there's little reason not...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

The biggest challenge here is the need for a physical connection. There are some dual chargers that can load share. So you might install a 60 A circuit to run a 48 A dual charger. Plug in two EVs to it. The standard profile would be running two charges at 24 A each, but I believe the charger can...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

I have an answer... In my opinion, people dismiss L1 too quickly. It's imperfect, but so is life. I would start with L1 for one EV, and an L2 and an L1 for two EVs. A friend of mine has a Mustang Mach-E similar to mine. He's had his L2 still boxed sitting in the garage for more than a year...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

For my company I had to upgrade our electrical service entrance panel to 400 Amps, which is significantly larger than the typical 100 Amp panel. So we have the space for two Level 2 EVSEs. I actually have three L2 EVSEs installed at this time. Because one of them stopped accepting my charge rate...

    Regenerative Suspension

There are a bunch of patents on regenerative suspensions that have been filed over the past ~100 years. There are very, very few cars that have been brought to production with such systems. I once worked with someone who was trying to bring their own design to market. As far as I know, they...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

An addendum: The video briefly showed panels oriented vertically facing east-west instead of south. That configuration produces a lot more energy in a day than the traditional south-facing panels. Using these bifacial panels in such a configuration, with a high albedo surface, especially if the...

when does production begin ..pLEASE HURRY UP

I would suggest you find an EV to lease for 2-3 years. That way you can take on the EV learning curve before you get your Scout. There are some incredible deals right now as manufacturers try to reduce inventory before incentives go away.

    Off-topic stuff…

We see them throughout the year, but they tend to be around more often when there’s water and fresh, green food for grazing. There’s a small “creek” nearby and they make use of it when it’s flowing. When the snows come, they can’t find much food for a few days after, so we tend not to see them...

    An Appreciation Post for Jamie

Honestly, it reads very bot-like to me.

It never does. We have had to fence in our young trees to protect them, but it’s totally worth it. Even the being wakened by their bugling at 0300 just outside our bedroom window.

Our place is in their daily migration path. That path is about 1-2 miles wide. Usually we see them a few times a week. There are two herds. The main herd with a main bull and then this, smaller herd with many bulls and a few cows and calves.

Poll- What have you Reserved... Let's get a small idea of the take rates.

I’m still not sure we’ll be able to afford it, but I renewed our BEV Traveler reservation. Well, “renewed” isn’t the right term. Got back in line with a new reservation is probably more accurate.

    Off-topic stuff…

Getting a thread started with really off-topic posts. First up. We have two herds of elk that pass through every day or two. The smaller herd of mostly younger bulls wandered through our back yard a few minutes ago. Video link to be posted shortly.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Well… That 91.7% efficiency headline is very misleading. The commentary in the video is more accurate. The values to look at for bifacial PV technology are: Front: 25.67% Back: 24.21% But the panels are not generating almost twice what a monofacial panel would generate. This is because...
