We purchased our scout in barely running but not driving condition. My wife's father had a Scout II when she was growing up and had to sell it when she was young. She loved it back then and we wanted our own to start creating new memories for our family.
Tell us about your Scout:
1978 Scout II
We bought our scout from a family in Pueblo, CO who were the original owners that had purchased it from the Faricy Truck & Equipment company. My family is originally from southern Colorado too so it was a neat coincidence that our Scout was from a dealer my parents recognized.

It ran but poorly so we ended up doing an engine swap not long after our purchase because of low compression. The local Denver Binder Bunch club was instrumental in peforming that swap, coming together and supporting this newbie Scout owner.

We found another fellow scout enthusiast in the Denver area willing to do all the rust-cutting and body work. He is amazing and has been so helpful through our entire ownership journey, always willing to answer my questions and provide guidance.

After getting it back from him, we stripped it totally down and prepped it for paint (color change!) and had the exterior and interior painted at a reasonable price because we don't want to stress taking this rig on trails and camping trips. The roof had a little bit of rust still, so for now, it just got rust treatment and a few coats of gloss white farm and implement paint. Maybe down the road it will get replaced with a rust-free roof.

Since then, we've been reassembling everything, including reupholstered seats and new carpets. It just passed emissions for the first time following a small top-end repair to replace a bent pushrod that we found when swapping the PCV valve. Now we can get it licensed in the state of Colorado. We're excited to take our Stalwart Scout on adventure!

We named it the Stalwart Scout because "stalwart" is a unique word in the Colorado State University fight song and my wife and I are big CSU fans! Stalwart means steadfast, strong, and sturdy so it's the perfect description for our Scout.
