Curious about the Scout mobile app?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I've been curious what Scout's mobile app will be able to do, so I dug through their published US patents and applications for clues. Short answer: nothing covers the app itself yet. Of about 65 filings, none are about remote control, a digital key, over-the-air updates, or vehicle sharing.

Two filings do mention a phone:

US 12709287, granted in August 2026, covers custom driving modes. You pick functions like lighting, climate, and seats and set what triggers them. The description mentions creating these modes from a smartphone app.

US 20260116370, still pending, lets you choose how charging is split between the charger and the gas range extender. It specifically names a smartphone as one way to set that.

Everything else is hardware: tailgates, winches, suspension, charging, accessories, and a stack of design patents on body parts.

Has anyone found more on the app? I'd love to hear about screenshots, beta invites, trademark filings, or anything from Scout's events.

The most interesting one is US 12709287, granted in August 2026, and it comes with screen mockups.

It describes custom vehicle modes you build yourself:

Mode list (Fig. 4A): a "Special Vehicle Modes" screen with built-in modes like "Restaurant" and "Baby Changing," plus your own custom modes you can edit or delete.

Build a mode (Figs. 4B to 4D): pick from Lighting, Climate, Seating, and Media, then toggle things like the awning, trail, and cabin lights, seat position, AC, and seat heat.

Choose how it turns on (Figs. 4E and 4F): make it an icon, add it to a menu, or assign it to an overhead accessory switch or dash button with a long, short, or double press.

Running it (Figs. 4G and 4H): a battery-drain warning with an estimate like "3 miles / 30 minutes," then an "Active" screen with an Exit button.

Think one-tap camp, tailgate, or trail modes. The patent claims cover building these on the truck's own screen, but the description says they could also be created remotely from a smartphone app. That's the clearest hint I've found about what the app might do.

Has anyone seen anything else on the app, like screenshots, beta invites, or demos at scout events?

Nadda, zip, zilch, nut’in. But I’m gonna take a shot at the obvious and say they are working on it. Hoping we start hearing more about these things so folks like you who enjoy it get the answers you need. And hoping it’s everything that makes sense and then some

I would hope they are working on something. That latest one in August looks pretty cool. Who knows if that will make it to production. Still cool though.

Yeh-anxious to see what comes next with apps and UI. If I can dig up anything in Boston I’ll try my best and share if I learn anything that doesn’t come with Vegas rules 😀.
That said I always worry about interface between phones and cars everytime there is an update because you never know what gremlin occurs that prevents connection issues with vehicle (or maybe that was just a Ford Bronco problem

I have to think they are working on the app. I imagine the software engineering takes forever so they have to be working on it. For that reason, I'd expect it to be one of the last things we'll hear about, unfortunately. I have to say, I hope it's at least as capable as Rivian (and better at waking the darn thing up). I legit don't carry keys anymore. Phone as a key is lifechanging.

That's the important part for me - So far I'm not a fan of vehicle apps; too glitchy, too slow, too complicated fitting a process that was meant for a 12" horizontal screen into a 4" vertical. One of the things I like about the Scouts is that they are keeping physical switches for common tasks. In fact that's one of the reasons I cancelled my R2 reservation; after driving a couple R1's the need to go through the screen to do everything only got more annoying the more I drove. But that's just me.

I recently purchased a new LandCruiser (incidentally, everything I want the new Scout to be, just not BEV) and while it's good fun to lock and unlock the doors, or start the car with an app - in practice even standing in my driveway with full wifi, the process is much simpler and faster to just open the door and push the button.

But if I don’t have a key what will I do with my Scout keychain???

Think it'd look too small/stupid attached to the winch controller? :ROFLMAO:

As for the app, I'm hoping I don't need one at all. The last thing I need in my life is more tech.

Of course Scout's app will be different, but I would envision that there will be overlap w/ Rivian's app. The Rivian App is incredibly well thought out and is also a central hub for service & support. I use the app everyday and prefer to use PaaK in part b/c the app has been great - particularly when it comes to things like charging, preconditioning and route planning. There are some good details here that may provide a preview of what to expect from a Scout app. The app will likely get better over time with OTA's and as functionality as the trucks evolve: https://rivian.com/stories/app-software-3-0
