Software Request: Traffic Jam w/ Autosteer - Keep it Smooth

We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

When I'm in a bumper-to-bumper traffic jam in my Model Y and using Autosteer (non-FSD), it overall does pretty well. But I do wish the car's movements were smoother. If in bumper-to-bumper and the person in front of me quickly accelerates then so does my Tesla, unfortunately. I'd love if Autosteer kept smooth accelerations and decelerations in a traffic jam that are just as smooth as a human driving, while simultaneously minimizing the amount of open road between me and the car in front.

Put more succinctly: please test in bumper-to-bumper traffic conditions when the person ahead of me may sometimes be smooth themselves or, if the person ahead has a lead foot, the Scout autosteer should still be smooth while catching up then re-braking.

I haven't seen details of the safety suite for the Scout (I haven't looked either). I would be 100% fine if Scout just offered emergency auto braking assist at any mph above +5 mph and adaptive cruise control down to 25 mph you can turn either system on/off. I would still keep my hands on the wheel and foot hovering over the brake with a Traffic Jam system being an ol' skool type of driver.

I have a hybrid sedan with Adaptive cruise control with low speed follow with Traffic Jam Assist self steer (uses a combo of radar and camera based system). It is advertised as a driving aid with braking/steering assist and not a full collision avoidance or self driving autonomous system. I imagine the cost and liability issues are greater between the two different systems.
