We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. Curious why it has to be leased. I thought EV credit max was $7500 be it sale or lease? Am I misunderstanding something in the info I read or are you just a lease person? I’m thinking I am missing something as I’ve seen other posts mentioning leasing for tax credit

there are income limits on the tax credit that get bypassed if you lease. I have heard of people leasing for 1 month and converting to purchase to qualify.

Correct leasing bypasses the income limit which is a big one. It also bypasses the sourcing limit...now some people might say hey that shouldn't matter since Scouts will be made in USA...however tell that to Rivian who lost the credit this year due to sourcing meaning if buyers want the credit they need to lease then buy it.

60k is a bit high for a stripped vehicle with a sub-sized battery and 1/2 a motor system. Maybe keep some of the luxury add ons as upgrades, but 60k for the offroad version with a full sized battery system is a much better price point - let it compete with other off road oriented vehicles. If they want to build a city scout later at a reduced price, sure - but get the brand image captured first. I really don't want to see the Scout get Cybertrucked. Promise a price point-then triple if if you really want the vehicle.
In everything mentioned so far SM has only discussed the smaller battery for harvesters and the 350 range battery for BEV.
Being such a large EV, and with their business model, it wouldn’t make sense to offer a 1 motor or reduced battery Scout for 60k.

I agree so much my buying decision might be tied to it. For $60K a nerfed Scout with reduced battery and 1 motor will have to compete with a barely used R1S AWD Large Battery and will lose every time. Heck by 2028 you can also throw in a pretty loaded brand new R2 as well.
 
A car should be viewed how it was in the early years. A car is a luxury, therefore there should be no reward for such luxury. Which that credit is technically a reward for buying an EV. When someone buys a house the realtor doesn't say here 300k back for buying this house.

Vehicles should have to fight for them selves, gas cars does have credits neither should EVs. Survival of the fittest. #Darwin

The tax code has been subsidizing big gas powered SUVs and trucks for years via Section 179 thanks to lager and quicker deductions for vehicles over 6K gvwr. I see nobody complaining about that one however if we were to go 100% Darwin like you said, then we'd also have to eliminate that write off...and good luck with that.

For vehicles 6,000lbs that’s a 3ton suv or truck. When was the last time you’ve seen one of those? I know my vehicles get written off.

Plenty but you're missing my main point: gas vehicles are already being subsidized by the tax code so if you truly believe in no subsidies then you have to argue for ending both the EV credits and Section 179 vehicle write offs.

Yes they both should be removed. Especially since income tax is being looked at to be removed. It’s even more stupid how excited people are for the credit. It’s like do you really want the car or is it because you don’t feel like paying much in taxes and you are really here just to eliminate 7,500 of your taxes.
