Bench Seat vs Standard

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Bench only for me, no interest in buckets.

Or heating, cooling, massaging, bidet's, blue tooth.. No leather or cloth either, perfectly happy with vinyl.

I just need something to sit on.
VW has perfected perforated imitation leather.

Love the idea of a bench seat but the proposed center console as standard has so much more storage and flexibility. So long as the passenger slide out work table can be had in both
The other question I have is lumbar support. Comfort is too important. Do we have any idea if the bench seat has adjustable lumbar support. Middle seat I wouldn’t expect but drivers side and passenger side adjustable lumbar support would be amazing in the bench seat. I’m hoping it’s at auto shows next year because if I can’t sit on the bench seat and test it I have go with standard.

I think the real intent of middle bench is as an extra seat when in a pinch, or for your pet child to be by your side-they don’t care about lumbar ?. Or when you want your sweetheart next to you to cuddle and probably not an issue then either. But good question in regard to the driver and passenger position. Because I agree lumbar is important

When I hear "bench seat" I still picture traditional bench seats from decades ago. There's no reason for a modern bench to be uncomfortable and unsupportive. Look at rear seats nowadays compared to the old rear bench seats out back. The two outer seats are nicely shaped with a fold down center console between the seats that can be folded up for another less comfortable seating position. I expect the same up front. I'd like some bolstering, heating and ventilation for the outer two spots. The latter are more for minimizing battery/HVAC use than luxury.

I do agree that a modern bench seat should be much better than the ones from back in the day. The one obstacle I can’t see being overcome is that since they aren’t independent of each other if you have a short person and a tall person sitting on the bench someone may not be comfortable because ultimately the driver has to reach the pedals. My husband and I took a road trip 2 years ago from Illinois to California and back in our Supra. We did the whole trip in a week. We had some really long days. One of us would sleep while the other drove. I can’t imagine not being able to recline the seat all the way to sleep. We plan to take the Scout on long road trips and for that reason as much as I am intrigued by the bench I just don’t think it will work for us.

60/40 split bench seats have been around for a long time!

I'm intrigued to see how the bench comes out because it has some appeal but I'm assuming we'll end up getting the captains seats. The only butt that would ever be in the middle of the bench would be our dog which would be fun, but I have a hard time imagining the bench being equal in the way of support, adjustability, console storage, etc. Hope I'm pleasantly surprised when they finalize it though

I saw a pic of the 40/20/40 backseat which would be great to have the same split and adjustability up front. Allow you to move forward or back as needed the folded down middle seat when not being occupied by a little human or pet sidekick.
