  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Doesn’t matter. It’s still not common in the Automotive industry. They could easily patent the technology. If they weren’t going to make something that was improved from his patent, then why would new R&D be need and why would it be taking so long for the information on it to come out on the Harvester?

And the Patton Locomotive was a standard hybrid not an EREV.
Chevy Volt
Fisker Karma
BMW i3 REX
Cadillac ELR

are some examples of EREVs that predate Scout Motors

All EREVs that ate discontinued. So that still makes my point that its not common in the industry.

And some of those mentioned are just standard plug in hybrids.
Your argument is centered around patents which of course are all about those who do it first. I'm no expert on those cars, but if there were patents to be filed for this technology..and that's a big if..they probably have them.

Also all of those are EREVS not PHEVs.

I see a valid point with @THil08 comment. There may be a new approach to the function/mechanics of the system that’s unique enough to patent. They may create an amazing new way that puts its function leaps and bounds ahead of any other and slapping a patent on it gives SM more time to lead the way with a superior product. Mazda was considering a hybrid using the Wankel-if it does pan out they can patent that as a unique approach that prevents other so maybe SM will develop a whole new EREV approach. Never say never.
Just read yesterday that China just doubled the run time of their fusion reactor which is a HUGE leap forward for that tech.
SM could figure something out that gets 800 miles range-not likely but they’ve hired a lot of smart people with a completely new approach to EVs so I’ll hold out for hope on this tech

For sure if they find a better or different way to do EREV then yes patents should be filed, however the discussion seemed to be based around just EREV itself unless I missed something, hence my/others comments.

Not common but a lot of been-there-done-that.

BMW tried EREV a few years back with the i3 REX & i3s REX. It used a tiny scooter engine as a generator and it got you, hold on to your seat, a whopping 47 extra miles. The Chevy Volt had a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine range extender that ran a generator that charged the battery went it when below a specified level. The Cadillac ELR (2013-16) used the Chevrolet Volt's Voltec EREV drivetrain.

I'm more in favor of Nissan's model where at highway speeds the generator is powerful enough to run 100% of the drivetrain and still charge the battery.

Of course if they find a new way to handle the problem you can count on it being patented.

edit: or maybe a selector between Chevy's mode (I don't know if I'll make it to the next gas station) or Nissan's mode (You know you have enough gas to get home but you want the battery charged when you get there)
Ugh the i3REX my least favorite car to service…

Mazda has already made a Wankel range extender.

Ford Says Large Electric Trucks And SUVs Have 'Unresolvable' Problems

Ford CEO: We Need EREVs Because Americans 'Love Their Big Trucks'

"...Profitability for the large family haulers will instead come from “PHEVs, hybrids and EREVs” that on “one tank of gas can get over 700 miles of range, but still drive most miles electric..."

"...For larger retail, electric utilities, the economics are unresolvable,” Farley said..."

Do you have to disassembled half the vehicle to service a regular maintenance item?

"What makes you think you're capable of being an automotive mechanic?"
"Well. I'm a contortionist and I like playing Tetris."
"Welcome abord"
pretty much the entire back half has to be torn apart to do a proper maintenance. They are a pain in the you know what to service. Yes oil change is easy but once spark plugs come into the mix it a pain.

I hope Scout comes up with some type easy to maintenance solution.

Oh man, this hits hard.

I'd also add "I have the hand size of a 6yr olds and am double jointed" to the list of qualifications.

Trump just canceled the federal NEVI EV charger program

Electrek’s Take
I asked Loren McDonald, chief analyst at Paren, what his thoughts were on this latest cancellation, and he, among others (myself included), doesn’t think the FHWA has the authority to stop the NEVI program with a memo – it would need a change in law from Congress – and then the courts will settle it. (Who else is beginning to see a Trump administration theme here?) McDonald said:

I don’t believe FHWA has the authority to pause or rescind any aspect of NEVI. The Trump administration is clearly trying to stop or pause programs like NEVI for as long as they can, but I assume lawsuits from states will start soon, and this will go to court and Congress … but the Trump admin will succeed in just causing havoc and slowing things down for a while. In the end, the Trump administration will likely fail, as only Congress can fundamentally revise and stop the NEVI program.

This was known to be ended, it was on the table once he got into office.

I have to say this, it does allow for Ionna and others to have a chance. The EU has probably the best charging infrastructure I think. And they have less of a fund. EU has 1.5 Billion and we had a 5 Billion. Absolutely ridiculous #LetGoDOGE for cutting costs.

The ultimate shame is the advancements Chinese EV’s will make due to short sighted planning and in 5-8 years the U.S. car manufactures will start dying because they’ve fallen too far behind because EVs didn’t advance because infrastructure didn’t expand and all research and funding/support is centered around fossil fuels. China will be selling in all the countries we used to export to and 1,000’s will lose jobs and U.S. manufacturing will fall behind.
I just saw an article today that showed Tesla sales have drastically dropped in the European countries (presumably because of his overstepping) so that will push those countries to buy more Chinese EV’s again creating a fallout situation for US vehicle manufacturers.
Isn’t there a Japanese phrase about death by a 1,000 cuts?

If i remember correctly about a month ago Europe was working on banning Chinese EVs. It popped up on my bosses desk, so i had to check it out lol.

And USA EV sales are starting to rise. And we also Export around 7.3 billion in EVs to other countries besides China.

Here it is
Thats been tesla all along, everyone who owns them hates him and everyone who doesn’t likes him. Im on the like side.

And I think it’s because he lies about the vehicles production timeline and range. I do think the Model Y might give them a good name again.

Adding on to this: DOT is to REVISE the NEVI program, comments to be made in spring.
