  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

I currently have the following in my frunk: - NACS to J1772 adapter (level 2) - NACS to CCS adapter (level 3) - Level 1 charger (J1772) - Windshield fluid - 12V booster battery pack thing (technical term, obviously) - V2L adapter - 3D printed charging port cover to turn the lights red (for...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Glad you were able to make the trip despite the nail! This has been my experience as well. I think a lot of this myth is based on people buying performance Teslas and driving them like they stole them. I get it. Going 0-60 in under 4 seconds is super fun! But driving a car like you stole it...

    solid state battery option

That's literally what Toyota's marketing strategy has been in recent years. They've been hyping mythical solid state batteries for years but only offering hybrids because they know that most people aren't informed about the state of the battery tech they can be easily duped. They know that if...

Thoughts on Long-Term Charging Plans for Overlanding and Rural Travel?

If you want a vehicle to run off solar just buy an Aptera https://aptera.us/ A big truck like a Scout is too inefficient to make a modestly-sized solar array worth it. You'd need a big one, which is fine but it's not something you'll carry around with you.

Ford announced an EREV Bronco Sport, not for the US.

Hahaha "tariff units" haha I like that. Yeah, I'm even thinking the Scout might be too big. It's certainly pushing my size limits. I'd rather something a bit smaller and more manoeuvrable.

Solid State Battery Tech for Dummies

Thanks, I'm not seeing anything about a car being launched this fiscal year or production of the car next year. Goals are one thing but aspirations aren't reality.

"QR IR"? What's that? Can you not just provide a link?

Ford announced an EREV Bronco Sport, not for the US.

Too bad they won't bring it to North America, that is a very compelling EV! With the exaggerated WLTP range specs, even if you cut it down significantly to be a more realistic range it's still very compelling. An EV Bronco sport would be one of the few vehicles capable of stealing me away from a...

Solid State Battery Tech for Dummies

It doesn't really matter because whatever car ends up using the Quantumscape battery cells won't have remarkably different capabilities than conventional EVs. Solid state batteries aren't magic, the cars won't have dramatically faster charging curves or vastly longer ranges, and even if they did...

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

No problem. I mean the traction battery doesn't really care where the electricity if from so there's nothing preventing you from setting up a solar system and running an EVSE off of it. There would be some losses going from solar DC to AC and then back to DC for the battery but it works and lots...

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

In a word, no. The traction battery has it's own charge controller, the DC to DC inverter only goes one direction as far as I understand it. To charge the traction battery you'd need to either provide it with either a 120V or 240V AC source through it's charging connector or a DC source at a...

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

The auxiliaries typically run on the 12V system but yes, the high voltage traction battery does charge and maintain the 12V battery through what they call a "DC-to-DC inverter". Basically it's a device that converts the high voltage to 12V. Most cars run that device whenever needed to charge...

2022 Mustang Mach-E recently hit 250,000 miles. Zero problems.

lol It'll look pretty much like it does today, just as current batteries look pretty much like they did 10 years ago. A 2015 Tesla Model S battery is pretty much the same as current Tesla batteries. Don't hold your breath for dramatic changes. Changes in the technology are incremental and...

2022 Mustang Mach-E recently hit 250,000 miles. Zero problems.

Yeah that sounds about right. The main difference is that EVs have hundreds or even thousands of cells in their battery packs along with a sophisticated battery management system (BMS) whereas your phone typically has just one battery cell and no BMS to manage its health so yeah, a phone will...

What kind of tech do you expect enabled in the car or interface?

My mom says that too but I don't believe in superstitions or myths.
