  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Swore I’d never buy an EV, then Scout happened

Ev's are popular in London because they have been exempt from the London Congestion Charge (£15/day) and the UK's Vehicle Excise Duty. Both of these benefits are going away. You will also pay less taxes in the UK on a vehicle that emits less carbon dioxide.

    Removable Rear Seats

Tesla offered them in the Model S until 2018. I don't think they're illegal, just unpopular.

What are you driving until release?

Nissan recently applied to trademark Xterra. Hopefully they can right the ship and find some money in their couch cushions. https://tsdr.uspto.gov/documentviewer?caseId=sn98918315&docId=APP20241223101935&linkId=2#docIndex=1&page=1

Cost and Ease to Repair/Maintain the Traveler and Terra

I take it to mean a Scout mobile technician can do 80% of the repairs in a driveway. It doesn't mean an owner can necessarily do it. Mobile service will be necessary with a limited number of service centers. Major battery issues or removing the Harvester will likely mean trip to a service center.

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

What I did was explain why diesel failed in this country. I didn't even mention the many other reasons why gasoline is superior for Americans (others have already done that). I get it, you're a fanboy. But for most people, it's not the best option.

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

The EA888 2 Liter is a good engine. It's an iron block which is good for durability but heavy. The oil pan is also composite, but that can be changed. Direct injection carbon issues are a concern for me. Leaky water pumps and thermostat housings are known issues.

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

Diesel may emit less carbon dioxide than gasoline, but the higher nitrogen oxides and particulate matter are a problem. Even the Europeans recognize this now. EV's often outsell diesel cars there. As long as gas was cheaper here, diesel never stood a chance for passenger vehicles. GM's...

Scout concepts on Jay Leno’s Garage

You clearly don't follow Leno. He's driven a Tesla model S plaid for a couple of years. He owns a Rolls-Royce Spectre EV. Jay has spoken many times about ICE and BEV cars being able to co-exist. He does favor cars over trucks (although he does have a GMC Syclone).

    Battery Capacity Options

The same Motor Trend podcast (The Inevitable) that had Scott Keogh on recently had an episode in November with a Tire Rack SVP of Marketing. He confirmed that EV tire wear is caused by massive torque, not weight.

Dunno. I'm too tired to monkey with it. I'll just delete it

There are already a bunch of Leno comments here, including one from Jamie. It might be a better place to continue the discussion. https://scoutmotors.community.forum/threads/scout-concepts-on-jay-leno%E2%80%99s-garage.2175/page-2#post-23784

Everything Scott says gets analyzed like the Zapruder film. You have to love the enthusiasm of the future Scout owners!

    Scout as an EV

It depends on a few things: real-world BEV range (vs. EPA range), and price compared to the EREV. I would not be surprised if the Harvester costs extra. However, I believe a Harvester-optioned Scout will depreciate less than the BEV version.
