Backup Camera Relocation Kit/3rd Party Camera Support

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

For those of us considering putting a bed cap, pop up camper, bed rack, etc. on a Terra someday, it would be awesome if there was a factory camera relocation kit for trucks with large bed accessories.

If you still want your reverse camera, Level 2+ Driver Assist (if it’s actually camera based), and dashcam recording capabilities.. Scout will need to support relocating the rearward camera in some sort of fashion.

They could include a 3’X3’ calibration sheet that you can toss down on the driveway and calibrate it. That way you can still add it after your initial purchase, and do it yourself without a trip to a distant service center.

For those that tow trailers it would also be awesome if they supported wireless or common 3rd party trailer camera systems.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

On the Lightnings, the bed-view camera doesn’t seem to be involved in any of the safety features. There are cameras in the tailgate and at the hitch that play that role. I do wish there was an obvious and easy way to move the camera from overlooking the bed to looking behind the cap/camper.

I have not owned a pickup truck in a while. I do know that the rear view/backup cameras on the latest Ford and Chevy pickup trucks is in the tailgate. Are there other trucks that have the backup camera on the cab rather than in the tailgate? Or is there another camera that shows the bed of the truck from the cab, and @Chavannigans wants to relocate that one?

It just makes me a little nervous about it breaking features like Trailer Blindspot Monitoring, Active Cruise, etc. because one of the UI designers let it slip that it will be a camera based system.

Some people may also want to remove their tailgates for various reasons like lift-gates, bed campers, or smashing it into light poles and not being able to close it anymore 😭

That never happens. Or when latch refuse to lock in and your carrying 20 pieces of 16’ 4” pvc pipe up a hill 🤣
