Scout Patents

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Oh I hope we get the drawer under the drivers seat. One of my BMWs had that. I really like it.

Also I wish the seats had that break in the front like my BMW did. So you could extend the bottom of the seat to the back of your knees. That was really nice feature.
I saw something in the USPTO for under seat storage. Seems those seat rails that look like an engineers nightmare are full steam ahead. Talk about having a standardized wire harness, this thing will be unstoppable if they do a standard wire harness and not different one for each trim.

I’ve been thinking about looking at Scout patents.

My favorite so far is their innovative cooling system for the battery. It’s an “obvious” set of solutions once you think about it, but it’s clear nobody else has spent much time thinking about it.

One of my favorite parts about it is their intention to actively cool the busbars directly. I haven’t looked at every battery out there, but this isn’t necessarily something that all other battery systems incorporate. One huge advantage of this is that they can chose to use smaller busbars for reduced weight and cost or use the original spec busbars to get even better high-power performance.

From this, I wonder if there will be a Maximum Tow package that incorporates both the large busbars (to provide higher amperage draws across them) and cooled busbars (to keep those busbars from overheating). The Maximum Tow package may also include a separate cooler. I don’t see a patent for that at the moment.

Another part that’s interesting is that they mention using CO2 as a possible cooling fluid. CO2 can be very efficient at moving heat…especially when it’s at the supercritical phase, and especially in the winter. But not necessarily so much in the summer—the higher temperatures in summer in the desert southwest might prove to make the system less efficient. BUT if they size the compressors for summer operation, they may still be smaller than traditional refrigerant compressors and will outperform those traditional refrigerants in the winter. This is a neat approach that I hope they take. The use of CO2 in these systems could also make it MUCH easier for DIYers to repair and refill the refrigerant (with the proper tools) since CO2 isn’t as toxic as some modern refrigerants.

One part that I hope works out for Scout but that I’m concerned about is that as-written (and if they implement it), the design will use the cabin HVAC for both cooling the cabin and for cooling the battery system. Maybe their modeling has demonstrated they can do this, but I have my doubts. After sitting in 110-120 degrees F heat in Needles, CA charging the battery without a shade over the vehicle, and when the battery is 8 inches above the blacktop that’s radiating at 150+ degrees F, they’re going to need a LOT of cooling.

Guessing now that they are filing things they’ll start with the more after/add products then move to the big ticket and innovation patents to minimize public awareness.

I added some more to my comment. I’m pretty interested in their thermal solutions. I did a ton of thermal modeling in graduate school and this stuff fascinates me.

Another patent they have submitted is for a single pump to run the hydraulics for both a suspension system and the lubricating oil of an internal combustion engine. I have my doubts that they’ll find this reliable enough to use it in production, but it’s fascinating what intelligent people can dream up when they aren’t saddled with “it’s always been done this way” attitudes.

There is a patent for being able to change modes; but I want to know what “Baby Changing” mode is.

As newborn one of my kids would only fall asleep with a drive - so I would occasionally find myself in the middle of the night at a cold and sketchy parking lot changing diapers. Maybe that mode was for past me.

Maybe in "baby changing mode" when parked it drops the tailgate of a Terra and lights up the bed, if needed for a nice changing table. Or, user selectable open and light the Frunk on either Scout vehicle.

Will be interesting to see. Seems they are bringing back the American way. And aren't going the old way of, "if it aint broke dont fix it".

we need more engineers that are willing to push boundaries.

They are 100% making a fully capable vehicle.

I was picturing it rolling the windows down and turning the HVAC blower to high to de-stink the cabin, haha. :ROFLMAO:

Volvo should be shaking in their boots. That Scout is back, and is more family oriented.

Do you know the patent number for it?
