Reclaiming the Challenge Coin

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Hey all, typical lurker in the forums here. I'd like to get some feedback from everyone regarding the challenge coin topic. I know from a prior post that a lot of people aren't fond of the idea of challenge coins due to the NADA association or believing that it should stay as a military tradition, but in my opinion, it's more than that. It allows you to create a sense of community when you run into another Scout if they're given out when you purchase a vehicle; whether it's by giving you a talking point if you don't bring yours or if you're talking with non-Scouts, it can get them intrigued in the idea of picking up a Scout (traditionally, if you forget or lose your challenge coin, you buy a round, but it could just be a talking point and can just give each other crap if you forgot yours). My girlfriend was kind enough to throw together some mock ups of what might be decent designs for such a challenge coin and we'd like some feedback on which everyone would prefer. Here's a render of the fronts and backs:

These are currently rough drafts (and if they're not allowed, Jaime strike me down!), the intention is to poke Scout to give the thought of including something like them, if enough people think they're a good idea. If we get a LOT of positive feedback, our plan is to have a couple made, post how they turned out, and then leave it for the company to decide what to do. We wanted to give the options of being vehicle agnostic, having them be vehicle specific, and some variety for the front. The coloring can be added or removed as well. Below is an example of what the first back coin might look like, based on another challenge coin I got from PAX West a few years back:

Feedback is always welcomed, on every aspect of the idea!

I’ve done a lot of custom pins for tournament prizes in archery. Some time ago @OleScout posted a pic of a scout art pin and I think I’d much rather have an art pin. I’ve considered challenge coins but mentally I feel like those should be left for military and law enforcement where they originated from. I would figure out a way to pin an art pin of a scout on my mirror visor but would not want a challenge coins-that’s me personally. I’d really like to see a hat brim clip scout “pin” that fits on the sun visor. But just my personal preference and thought

I like the idea of a pin as well, I personally don't end up using pins much (except for trading when I'm at Disney or PAX).

I agree. I don’t even trade. I have a few Disney pins on the back of my Disney ball cap and otherwise no reason for me to collect. I have fun designing them for tournaments

I like the idea. It just reminds me of the trail rated badges you see on the side of Wranglers. And when you do a new trail you get the badge.

Are you thinking this is a trade with other Scout owners when you see them kinda thing or what’s the plan?

I was initially thinking as just a momento to show you have a Scout, but it would be pretty cool to be able to build it out so to speak with different activities. When I had my Jeep, there was a ton of off-roading badges I could get, but I dont go off-roading and typically do other outdoor activities (boating, camp, etc) so having a wider badge or addon option might be nice for the different national parks maybe.
