Padded door sills

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Hanging the old arm out the window is a classic car move. However, many newer vehicles have a high waist due to crash requirements and then use hard plastic on the door sill. My 2015 4Runner (which I will be selling for my Scout) has a nice leatherette door sill making driving a higher waist vehicle with an arm hanging out sooo much more comfortable. Also, the material is non-staining/absorbent so even on the hottest days, you can still drive with the windows down and your arm out without worry of making an off color mark on your interior. I LOVE Scout Motor's focus on making this new offering a true Scout and I hope you will take the suggestion of making a very comfortable and convenient place for my arm to inhabit while I cruise on a sunny afternoon, gently tapping a drum beat out on the outer door panel.

Thanks for sharing your post. You make a great point. You must be taller than me though as I still struggle on our Pilot to find a comfortable position due to the high belt line. I suspect I’ll struggle on the Scout as well but padding is a great idea.

For us shorter people we need a padded arm rest. That works for me in my wrangler. And a padded center console. I always have my arm resting on that console.

I used to like doing this (was also a fan, as a passenger, of the ol’ foot-out-the-window maneuver until I saw Death Proof: IYKYK). I can see the appeal. Sitting at a desk badly for years has wrecked my wrists and neck, so I try to just go for as neutral of a position as possible when I’m driving (if I catch myself tensed up—which is often because I95/MA 128—I try to relax and readjust as much as the situation allows) . That said, for the times that you’re not driving, like if you’re waiting to pick someone up, it’s nice to be comfortable and have a place for your arm to comfortably rest. I’ve wished for an arm hammock at times. 😅 It’s stupid and impractical, obviously, but I like the feeling of my arm at a kind of neutral position where I’m not stressing my elbow or my shoulder. Having torn my ALS a couple of times, any kind of arm movement that means even a tiny bit of shoulder engagement sucks when that injury is fresh. Having my arm supported (by something other than my own shoulder) is an ongoing long-distance driving fantasy, lol.
