BACKGROUND: I am not a Rivian "hater", but I am a "refugee" in the sense that I was once very much on "Team Rivian". In fact, I am still a Rivian shareholder (but probably not for much longer). BUT... my reservation experience with them was an utter debacle. I took over 3 years to get an allocation months and years after literally thousands of MUCH later reservation holders got theirs first. I grew up near their production plant in Illinois. I helped my brother with his Rivian purchase. I want them to survive and obviously VW does too, but I think the Scout will be a MUCH better product assuming it comes to market with the features we have seen in the reveal for at least ballpark price of $60-$70k.
Back to the title of my post: Over the last couple days I've seen a lot of posts and comments on the socials about how the Scout "ripped off" the Rivian. I actually thing it is the reverse. In my estimation, the Rivian designers were big fans of the OG Scout. As this article points out, the Scout designers have been fairly faithful in their interpretation of the original Scout.
